I'll Be Beside You (Sequel to I'll Be Watching You)

The Plan

CATO POV

"Why aren't the Careers on the beach?"

"Cause we are. We claimed it."

"And if we left, they would come? At midnight, the lightning strikes that tree. The plan that we leave the beach at dusk, head to the lightning tree. We run this wire from the tree to the water and we get as far away from the beach as possible. When the lightning strikes, everyone in the water or on the damp sand will be electrocuted."

"How will we know the wire won't burn up?"

"Cause I invented it. I assure you, it won't burn up. The deal is that you all have to keep me alive until midnight, agreed?"

The whole group nodded and dispersed to their individual groups. Brooke and I headed towards the water while Finnick, Johanna and Beetee stayed at the tree line. We sat and watched as the sun began to set, casting a purple hue over the beach.

"I think we need to go."

"Brooke, I can feel it that this plan will work."

"I know, me too. But once the Careers are dead, we both know what happens next. I just don't want to be the one to pull the trigger."

"I don't think any one of us wants to but it has to happen. We have to stick together. If we go through with this plan and we hear a cannon, we'll go."

"They won't let the both of us live again, you know that."

"If it comes down to it, you're the one who's gonna live."

"No! I can't live without you!"

"You have to live for our baby and your family. Without you, I'll have nothing to live for. You have to live."

I pressed my lips against hers and we just sat there, kissing away our worries for the moment.

"Okay lovebirds! Time to go!"

Everyone gathered up the weapons and headed for the lightning tree.

It took forever to get to the tree. We could all see the moon really clearly through the tree canopy. Beetee went straight to the tree and began wrapping the wire carefully around the trunk of the tree.

"Minimal charring. This is impressive conductor."

We all stood around, waiting for Beetee to give us more instructions. When he was finally satisfied that there was enough wire around the tree, he placed the coil into Brooke's hands.

"You and Johanna run this coil down to the beach. Make sure the coil is fully submerged in the water. Meet us at the large tree in the 2 o'clock sector."

"I'll go with them as a guard."

"No, Cato, you're staying here to protect me. There are 2 Careers, I need 2 guards."

"Why can't Finnick and Johanna stay with you and Cato and I will take the coil?"

"You agreed to keep me alive until midnight. Is there a problem?"

Brooke and I looked at each other. Johanna rolled her eyes at us.

"It's his plan. We all agreed to it."

"Fine."

I grabbed Brooke's arm before she could leave.

"You'll be okay, Johanna will protect you. Just remember our plan if things go wrong."

"Okay, I love you."

"And I love you."

So guys, this is just a filler for the big ending. I will be doing 2 different chapters, one for Brooke's POV and one for Cato's POV. Those two chapters will be the conclusion to the story, I will keep the tradition of having the Fallen chapters as well. Then will come the third book which I will post more info about at the end of this book.
