"Let me get this straight!" Vincent Griffith, the registrar, said and folded his hands on the desk of his office."You had an appointment today for the marriage ceremony of yourself and one Miss Hayley Marshall. Now you're saying that your former arrangement is void and you instead wish to marry someone else. Your new bride is your ex-wife. You two have been divorced for six years in which you've neither spoken nor met. Then you met again three weeks ago and now you want to get remarried."
"Yes, that is correct." Elijah confirmed. Mr Griffith looked at the couple for a while and then at the guests and witnesses, including two identically looking girls. He wondered for a moment if they were pulling his leg, but eventually, he saw that they were quite serious.
One hour later, Elena and Elijah walked out of the building, beaming happily like they did before, and got into the car that was waiting for them. Elena was now Mrs Mikaelson once again and Elijah could finally call her his wife again.
They had a small reception at Gaspar's. Klaus, Caroline and Bonnie had made their way down to NOLA, bringing a few friends of theirs as well, in order to make it a real wedding reception.
Klaus started his cousin off with a rather smug conversation. "So you really kept it to yourself for six years? Do you realize I could've told you everything about it all along? I was there when Damon had his little toxic phase with that godforsaken woman. You, my dear cousin, are a big fool!" he exclaimed, slightly amused, and slapped his cousin on the back.
"He sure is!" Elena confirmed with a grin.
Elijah gave his wife a side glance. "It appears so. Whatever did I do all these years without the unrendering support of my dear wife?!" he said, the slight tone of irony evident in his voice. Elena just grinned at him.
Meanwhile, Elle and Lena were sitting on a table with Kol and Sophie, enjoying the food.
"I'm so glad I don't have to eat shrimps this time!" Elle happily proclaimed.
Lena gasped. "Shut up! Shrimps are the best!"
"Is this what having kids is like?" Kol asked, looking at his wife. She smirked and nodded. He took her hand, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Well, it is kind of great, but somehow, it still makes me hope, our children won't come in pairs."
Klaus joined them and brought some friends with him.
"How are my favourite twins doing?" he asked with his signature smirk on his face.
Lena grinned at him. "Good, thanks for asking, Klausy-Mousy!"
"Klausy-Mousy??" Elle gazed at her sister in confusion, while starting to giggle.
Klaus' eyes widened and he let out a deep sigh. "You see, that's why I wasn't too sad about having the shy one living near me instead of the naughty one. She calls me... that!!"
"Klausy-Mousy!" Elle giggled. "Why didn't you tell me about that? I'm so gonna call him that too now!"
"Whose idea was it again to let these two be in one room?" the blonde man asked, protest evident in his demeanor.
One of the men he brought with him smirked and took a seat beside the twins. "Oh, come on, let them have this! And if it makes you feel any better, I'd be happy to make sure they won't have a special nickname for you much longer." Klaus gave him a look of suspicion. The other man returned his gaze and then started grinning. "Because I'd get everyone else to call you by that name too, which means it won't be special anymore. Wouldn't that be great, Klausy-Mousy?"
Klaus rolled his eyes and took a seat himself.
"Who are you?" Elle shily asked the black haired man who was just making fun of Klaus.
Before he could answer, Lena piped up. "Oh, oh, I know! I've met him! He is Damon. And that," she pointed at the other man who was sitting next to Klaus now, "is Stefan. Mom always says that Stefan and Klaus are a bromance of the ages!"
Stefan bit his lip. "Yeah, uh, please don't call us that!"
"Ah, you have to forgive my friend." Klaus said and put an arm around Stefan's shoulders, smirking. "He's a little touchy when it comes to the nature of our relationship."
"Not helping..." Stefan muttered.
At the bar, Freya introduced Dr Keelin Malraux, her new girlfriend, to Rebekah and Marcel.
"It's nice to see you finally started doing something other than working." Rebekah remarked.
Keelin laughed. "That applies to both of us. Being a doctor takes up a lot of time too."
Davina, who was starting to be bored of the grown-up conversation, left them talking and went to the table where the twins were sitting.
"Hey D!" Lena greeted her cousin.
Elle looked her, then at the table. "Um, guys, is there a free seat for her?"
"She can have mine." Damon spoke up, his gaze fixed on something behind the twins. Or rather someone. Just in that moment, Bonnie and Caroline had walked in and while Caroline went to join her husband, Bonnie remained at the buffet. Damon stood up from his chair and walked up to her, engaging her in a conversation.
"I do hope we didn't miss much?" Elijah now asked as he and Elena were joining the company at the table too.
Lena grinned. "Not too much, Dad! We were just getting started."
And so, the party went on. Elena and Elijah started a new chapter of their life, together once more.
