"How dare she?" Lena furiously mumbled under her breath."How dare she what?" Lizzie asked. The Satzman-twins had gone after Lena when she ran away and now they were sitting on a large tree strunk that was laying around near the lake. Lena was in a bad mood, to say the least.
"How dare she show up here with my face! I am the one who looks like this! She should get her own face!" Lena said, louder and upset.
"I know right?" Josie agreed with her. "If someone came here looking like me, I would claw her face."
Lizzie her sister a silent 'not-helping'-look and shifted uncomfortably on the rock she was sitting on.
"Don't you think you're being unfair? I mean, people normally don't get to choose their looks." Lizzie carefully said.
"But if I could, I would totally choose to look exactly how I look now and forbid everyone else to look the same!" Josie added. Lizzie shot her another glance.
Lena looked at Josie. "That's just my point! This" she pointed at her face, "is my look! I will show that little wannabe me missy that she has no business running around looking like that!"
The Saltzman-twins exchanged a look. They knew Lena all too well. Throughout the last week, they had spent almost all of their time together. They knew that look on Lena's face and knew their friend meant business. But, they also knew there was no stopping her.
And they were right. When a few of the girls were swimming in the lake the next day, they were approached by a brunette girl wearing a nice skirt and a blouse. The girl took the clothes of the swimming girls and stood on the bridge of the lake and grinned at the girls in the water.
"Hey there. Are these yours?" she teasingly asked and then threw the clothes into the water.
"Noo!" a red haired girl yelled and angrily looked at the brunette girl who just laughed and ran off. The girls quickly got out of the water and started chasing the girl. She had ran off towards the big camp house. They found her in the garden in front of the house, plucking out the weed.
"Hey, you!" a black haired girl angrily shouted. The brunette girl turned around looking at the girls in surprise. They were wearing their swimming clothes and looked at her with angry expressions.
"Umm, yeah? What is it?" she asked, confused.
"Like you don't know!" one of the other girls said. And with that, the girls took the brunette girl by the arms and dragged her towards the water.
When the girl realized what was happening, she panicked.
"No, no, please! Why are you doing this, I didn't do anything to you!" she cried. The other girls, however, ignored her completely. They dragged her onto the bridge and shoved her into the water."There! That'll teach you to stay away from our clothes!" the red haired girl said with satisfaction. The girls left.
The brunette girl in the water, however, was far from calm. She splashed and screamed, trying to keep herself over water.
"Help! Help! I can't swim!" she screamed.
Lena who had watched what happened with pleasure, saw the other brunette girl helplessly paddling in the water. She was wearing a skirt and a blouse that looked like the clothes the other girl wore. Lena had borrowed the clothes from Lizzie, since she herself did not own a skirt or a blouse like that. After throwing the clothes into the water, Lena had run off, leading the girls in the direction of where her lookalike was. Then, she had hid behind a tree, making sure the girls would only find the other girl with her face. She had a huge smirk on her face when the girls threw her lookalike into the lake. But as she watched the girl in the water after the other girls had left, her smirk faded.
"I think she actually can't swim." Lena quietly said to herself, feeling bad now. Determinedly, she ran to the lake and jumped in just as her lookalike started to go underwater. She grabbed her and swam with her towards the shore again. When they got there, the new girl coughed and sat down on the grass at the lake, exhausted.
She looked at Lena. "Thank you! I don't know why, but the other girls just threw me into the water and-" she stopped taking a better look at Lena, "wait, why are you dressed like me?"
Lena guiltily looked away."Okay, before you say anything, I was really upset because you look like me, okay? I mean, what on earth?? And I didn't know you can't swim! It was only meant to be a prank!" Lena quickly said.
The other girl looked at Lena for a while. Then she sighed and looked down.
"By the way, how come you can't swim?" Lena asked.
The other girl looked back at her. "I was supposed to learn it when I was seven. But then my swimming teacher got sick, so it got cancelled. My Mom wanted to teach me, but she has to work so much and just didn't find the time. We thought I could learn it here." she explained.
Lena nodded. Then she tilted her head to the side and watched the other girl through narrowed eyes, considering. And then, finally, a small smile was showing on her face. She said: "You know what? I'll teach you! Take off your skirt and that blouse and follow me into the water!"
"What? But, ... I mean, thank you! But shouldn't we get our swimming suits first?" the other girl stuttered.
"Nonsense! We only have, like, an hour left until dinner time! So we better get started! Come on, don't worry, it's not that hard!" Lena waved at her lookalike to follow her. She was already out of her clothes leaving her with only her blue underpants. She watched as the other girl neatly folded her skirt and blouse on the shore in order to join her in the water. She was wearing white underpants and a white undershirt.
Lena started walking into the water. Then she turned around again, asking: "By the way, what's your name?"
"Elle." the other girl replied.
