It was the day after Mason's birthday and as much as I didn't want to get up I had to. It was the annual employee meeting today and I had to be present as the COO.
I sluggishly got up and did my morning routine, laying out my outfit and shoes. Taking a final look in the mirror and satisfied by myself; I checked my bag for all the things I needed and left a little early to sort some pending matters.
I could hear the hushed whispers and murmuring as I approached the conference room but it quickly died down as soon as I walked in. Everybody quickly greeted me which I returned with a polite nod and took my place at the end of the table opposite the CEO aka mom.
A few minutes later she strutted inside with her secretary following suit and everybody rose to greet her. She just had that vibe that made everyone respect her. She was infact a big name in the fashion industry and a lot of people looked up to her, including me.
She took her place at the front of the table and gestured everybody to do the same. Then she asked her secretary to play the presentation.
The meeting was smooth; every department presented their annual reports and discussions were made for the company's best interests. Towards the end of the meeting mom took her place near the front to address all the employees.
"So as all of you are probably aware that we are presenting our collection at the New York fashion week which is due in about 2 weeks. This is an honor and a great opportunity for us to be able to exhibit at such a prestigious event."
Of course everybody was well aware of the upcoming event. All our lead designers were working tirelessly day and night to present an amazing collection.
"I'd like to acknowledge all the hard work and dedication that our designers and team has shown for the upcoming collection" she praised and everyone joined in on the applaud.
"And with that I'd also like to make an important announcement" everybody furrowed their brows in concentration.
"Please join your hands together for our team leader; the official representative for 'Blush' in the upcoming fashion week, Lydia"
It took me a while to realize that she actually took my name. I stood their frozen for a while till the sound of cheers and claps brought me back to reality. I looked over at mom to see she was already beaming at me. I swallowed the lump in my throat.
"But I have never done that, it's a huge responsibility; one I'm not quite sure I can handle"
"Darling you've been handling the business remarkably and I've seen how capable you are in terms of your designs and concepts. This is just a step in the right direction. I'm sure you'll do great" she squeezed my shoulder and gave me a reassuring smile.
