Sam's POV

I stand at the receptionist's desk at the hosptial and wait while she types information into the computer.

"Sir, I am so sorry, but there doesn't seem to be any insurance on file....."

"Oh! Right..." I fumble around inside of the pockets of my jacket and jeans, and finally pull out a stolen insurance card. I hand it to her and she takes it with a small smile.

"Okay... Mr. Burkovitz?..." I nod and then walk over to Dean and the police who were questioning him.

"Look, we can catch this later you guys..."

"No, no. It's uh fine," Dean says with a forced smile.

"We were just taking a shortcut through the neighborhood. We had the windows rolled down and we heard screaming when we drove ast the house. And we uh, stoppped. Ran in." I say as Dean looks down the hall, searching for a sign of Annie's doctor.

"And you found the kids in the basement?"

"Yeah. They were scared to death. " Dean pipes in

"Well, thank God you did."

Dean taps my shoulder and points to the doctor coming down the hall.

"Excuse us," I say as we turn to go down the hall.

"Sure. Thanks for your help!" They call after us. Dean and I jog up to the doctor.

"Hey doc. Is she?"

"She's resting. Electrocution triggered a heart attack. Pretty massive, and I'm afraid her heart.... It's damaged."

I look at Dean who looks like he's on the verge of tears. I know I am. "H-How damaged?" He asks.

"We've done all we can. We can try and keep her comfortable at point, but I uh.. She's got a couple weeks at most. Maybe a month."

"No, no. T-There's gotta be something you can do. Some- some kind of treatment." Dean says. I choke back a sob and run my hand through my hair.

"I'm sorry. I really am sorry." Tears sting my eyes and I grab Dean and walk past the doctor to Annie's room.

Dean's POV

Annie is sitting up in a hospital bed, flipping through the chanels on the small TV in her room. Her hair was tied back from her face, showing off her paper-white skin even more clearly. Her eyes are sunken and a blackish blue ring was on both eyes, making her look like a panda cub. An IV runs from her hand to a plastic bag hanging from a rack.

Without taking her eyes off the screen she says to us, "You ever watch daytime television? It's terrible." Her voice cracked and was feeble at the best times in her two sentence speech. Sam shakes his head and I sigh inwardly.

"We talked to your doctor..." Sam says. Annie's attention is still focused on the screen.

"That fabric softener teedy bear- oh! I'm gonna hunt that little bitch down..." She says, eyes glued to the screen.

"Annie." I say, voice harsher than I would've liked.

"Yeah?" She says, looking at us and tossing the remote to the side. "Alright, well it looks like y'all are gonna leave town without me."

"What're you talking about? We're not gonna leave you here."

"Yeah. You mess up my laptop and I swear I'll haunt your asses."

"I don't think that's very funny," Sam says.

"Aw, come on. It's a little funny." Annie tries to smile, but it quickly forms into a grimace of pain. She adjusts herself slightly, and scowls at the pain she must be feeling. Sam and I come over and help her sit up and she smiles greatfully at us.
