"that is more like it, dear brother"
SEEING THE LOOK on john b's face made braeden fill with pleasure. not because of how handsome the 17 year old boy is, but because of how he reacted when she showed him the compass. his face wrote grief. and braeden knew that she felt the same with her old friends back in England and the loss of her mother, so she loved seeing someone else feel the same.
feel like she feels.
it was also because she didn't know the guy, so she didn't feel guilty.
dan and braeden are sitting at the kitchen table eating leftovers from their dad's dinner last night for breakfast. for braeden's sake, she hopes dan doesn't know anything about what happened at the boneyard party and what jj did.
"so," dan placed down his fork and turned to look in his sisters direction. she looked up from her food and immediately knew that dan was going to start something, they're siblings for god sake.
"so?"
"how are you?" dan suddenly asked. her eyes widened at the question, since he's never asked her that before, well not in a long time at least, not properly since their mother's disappearance.
"i'm fine, why?" braeden chuckled.
"what do you mean why? i'm only asking you how you are, that's not rude, it's normal"
"you've literally never asked me that before-" braeden began to protest when he almost immediately cut her off.
"fucking hell! i won't do it again then, sorry for asking!" dan shouted out making braeden flinch slightly. her sudden movement wasn't played off very well, cause dan knew all too well. braeden cleared her throat, flipped her hair behind her shoulders and spoke aloud:
"that is more like it, dear brother" braeden tried to lift up the situation with humour, it's what she likes to do, she doesn't like the sappy conversational bullshit. the teen was satisfied that a chuckle escaped dan's mouth, this brought a slight smile to curl up on her lips. she would probably never admit it to him nor herself, but seeing her brother happy, brings a smile to her face. "no but seriously, why are you asking?"
dan's smile disappeared for a split second, then his lips curled back into a smile now he knows that they are still on this topic. "'cause why the fuck not?" the girl cracked a laugh, leaving dan to cackle along as well. the siblings looked at each other, making them laugh even more until neither of them could breathe properly. they both sighed of defeat then looked at each other once more.
