like a drug

yet, what she saw was beyond her imagination.

MEL WELSH WAS calming her daughter down after a hard day at school. all the girls called her a slut, whore, worthless piece of shit and many more hurtful names. braeden was crying on her bed, repeating to her mum what they were saying about her. jackson had managed to pull his amazing stunt and tell the whole school about how braeden was horrible in bed, how she was needy and worth nothing. and jackson being the popular jock in the school that he is, everyone believed him. the cheerleaders rubbed his back and seduced him with sloppy kisses, telling him that it's okay and that she was a waste of time, when the welsh teen was crying in the bathroom stall by herself, with no one but herself.

never once has braeden felt so alone.

braeden replayed that memory in her head over and over when she was walking home. after all of her desirable jj fantasies, it all turned south. and many of the memories that replayed in her head, were nothing positive, yet traumatic. it went from imagining jj maybank kissing her senseless, to peter hitting her, her first boyfriend verbally abusing her and to herself.

braeden welsh. 'the dangerous touron', who seemed to be turning nice ever since she met the pogues. it was like she wasn't acting herself, or maybe that she has changed herself.

for the better? or for someone else's pleasure? she was yet to figure that mystery out.

either way, she needed something. she craved her favourite drug. the green substance that always seemed to blow her worries away. thankfully, she remembered she had her secret stash hidden underneath her mattress. she just hopes no one has seen nor taken it. someone meaning dan.

she finally got home after her legs almost gave out all her energy. she walked up the broken set of stairs, opened the door with a single creak. she shut her eyes closed and bit down on her bottom lip, careful not to make any more noise than she already has. after a few seconds, she regained her thoughts back to normal and fully opened the door. for a minute, she thought she could taste blood from the impact of her biting down on her lip, but it was probably just her muddled mind playing cruel tricks on her.

the house was a complete mess. she only just remembered the night that had occurred a few nights ago. braeden's eyes gazed away from the glass shards on the floor, to the bloody knife that still remained where it was, in it's original place. she gulped, then bent down, crouching on the floor.

she picked up the metal weapon, feeling the coldness on her skin. she inhaled a breath and placed it back on the ground. afterwards, she stood back up, breathing another intel of air. each time she inhaled, her shoulders raised and lowered.

thankfully, neither peter nor dan were here, so she got a free pass on getting a lecture and a beating. braeden walked to her room, seeing as her door was closed, she held onto the knob and opened the old door.

yet, what she saw was beyond her imagination.

mel, her lost mother, was sitting on her bed.

"mum..." she muttered. her tears began to swell in her eyes as she stared at the woman that she had missed for as long as she could remember. the woman looked up from the ground and gazed sceptically at braeden.

"who are you?" mel stated. both women were looking at one another with the same expression. "w-who are you? what are you doing in my house?!" she now began shouting at braeden. the teen was beyond confused at her mother's antics; obviously they know each other.

"w-what do you mean, mum? you know me, i'm your daughter! it's braeden!" braeden went to grab her hands, when mel quickly ripped her own away. tears flowed down braeden's cheeks as she gripped onto her hair, pulling a couple of strands out.

"braeden" a voice came to be visible, yet her mind was too occupied with the thoughts of her mother being in front of her when she hasn't seen her in over a year. the voice called out her name again, but she didn't respond.

"BRAEDEN!" the voice got louder this time, making the teen turn around and face it.

jj was standing there with a worried face. braeden lowered her hands from her locks and turned around to face her mum.

but she wasn't there.

mel welsh disappeared, yet again.

"mum?!" braeden called out to her. she frantically began running around her room, looking under the bed, rummaging through the closet. nothing. "mum, where are you?!"

"braeden..." jj tried to get her attention, but she was too upset to talk, too upset to pay her attention to anyone. she just wanted her mum in her arms, like they'd always be a year ago.

"MUM!". jj ran towards her and hugged her tight. she attempted to get out of his grip, but he was too strong. braeden began sobbing in his chest as he stroked her hair.

"it's gonna be okay" he kissed her forehead gently. braeden cried her eyes out right in front of him. she was embarrassed of herself that she let her emotions out to jj; the one guy she never wanted to see her like this.

he kept whispering sweet nothing's in her ear, which calmed her down. she wiped her tears and stood up, pushing him physically away from her as well. he jumped up after her and asked if she was okay again.

she took a deep and needed breath, "yeah, i'm good, don't worry about me" she faked smiled at him. clearly, he did not believe her but didn't want to pressure her too.

braeden didn't understand why she had just saw her mother a second ago, and then suddenly she disappeared again. maybe she was so overwhelmed, that she hallucinated.
