❛ god i remember it like it was freshmen year! ❜
y/n sat across from me in the booth, she had recently moved back to tulsa after 10 years of moving away, she moved away to utah with her folks after her dad took a new job up there. my 10 years were depressing since we had to end it because two 18 year olds can't handle a long distance relationship.
"so, umm... what made you move back here?" i asked, taking a sip of my water.
"reasons are not to be said, for now i just wanted to check up on you and the gang." y/n shrugged, taking a look at her watch. "speaking of the gang, how are they?"
"oh you know, same old same." i gave out the same expression, not letting my eyes off of the ring that sat on her ring finger. "actually, they're about to come in, in about-"
"hey, ponygirl!" dally yells.
the guys were all walking into the dingo in cheers until they noticed y/n sitting there trying to recognize who their faces matches to from 1969, before the gang no longer needed a female member.
"since no one is saying it," two-bit growled. "y/n! welcome back to the shithole!"
two-bit jumped into our booth and gave her a welcome hug which made her face glow up into a smile, nobody else could show her the same enthusiasm, not even johnny who thought of y/n as a sister he never had.
"guys, come sit, she ain't gon' bite y'all." two-bit snickered.
everyone but two-bit took my side of the booth, we're all cramped together since nobody wanted to sit with y/n. after she left, everyone saw betrayal in her eyes because of the way she left, leaving me heartbroken and left her to blame herself.
"nice ring you got there." dally snarled, stealing one of her fries.
"thanks umm...-" she couldn't even finish before the questions started bombing her.
"you married? engaged? something we don't know about?" steve all said without hesitation.
"engaged, yes. married? no." y/n gave her ring one good look before looking up at us. "his name is, dave and i think you guys would like him."
all her chatter became muffled sounds as i couldn't stop recapping our high school years together, the time we snuck out of the house to buck's and got hammered real bad, the time where i became her first, the time where she slept during the sunset in the summer, the time where she told me she loved me.
"this place is starting to feel like home again." y/n twirled the straw in her cup, nobody changed their facial expression towards her.
"glad you feel that way." sodapop snarled.
"it began to feel like deja vu now"
