it had been an uneventful day. you called your mom and told her about your talk with the pro hero hawks, wanting her opinion.

she had said "y/n you HAVE to take this opportunity! he's a pro hero for heaven's sake!"

you groaned, feverishly rubbing your eyelids. "if you say so. an assistant job looks hard though..."

"oh please honey, you are an adult. you'll need a job sooner or later so just take this one." mom reprimanded.

you just hung up, frustrated. "just a few weeks ago i was still your little baby. ugh."

(pov switches lol)

y/n wanting to ease her frustration snatched up her shoes and walked outside to go for a walk. it was a cloudy day and she wasn't thinking about if it was going to rain or not. jelly beans was staying back home and playing so she wasn't worried, he was always well-behaved.

she trotted down the road with her hands fumbling with each other, eyes trained on the ground. her head was a mess.

should she really take the job? was she even qualified? what if she messed everything up for everyone? what if she screwed something up for hawks, the man who was kind enough to offer her a job?

with her thoughts wracking her brain, she didn't even realize that she had walked to an unfamiliar part of town.

"holy shit!" a voice whistled, immediately snapping the girl out of her thoughts. her frightened eyes glanced around until they landed on an older male with a cigar sticking out of his mouth and a scruffy beard. she cringed, hands crawling up to hug her sides and y/n picked up her pace to go further down the road.

what was i thinking? coming out dressed like this- it's like i was asking for this.

y/n sighed, trying her best to avoid the male who was gaining on her quickly, his hand outstretched to grab the poor girl's bare shoulder. and he did.

"well aren't you a pretty little exotic thing, aye? I'll show you a good time, baby girl." the man disgustingly cooed, words practically slurred as the overwhelming stench of alcohol drifted from his breath.

y/n winced from his touch and tried shimmying away, but his grip only got tighter until it stung.

"aw, come on sweetheart, don't be difficult."

"I'm really sorry mister, but i have somewhere to be..." she tried, sounding very convincing.

"yeah! in my bed, of course." he gave her a disgusting wink, not budging his grip one bit.

y/n tried pushing him off, but the dude wasn't going anywhere soon. he started pulling her along with him, his free hand tossing away his cigar and reaching for her delicate pair of wings.

"hey, she said she has somewhere to be dude. don't touch the wings." a voice interrupted suddenly, a gloved hand reaching for the drunken man and pulling him away from y/n.

y/n's e/c eyes lit up, silently thanking him. he nodded in acknowledgment.

"aawwee, don't be such a buzzkill man! she was just about to come with me-"

"i think the young lady had made it very clear that she did not intend to go anywhere with you." hawks stated, voice laced with a harsh undertone.

the drunken guy grumbled rudely and slapped hawks' hand away, stumbling away. hawks turned to y/n.

"are you okay, miss l/n? that could've been bad..." he rubbed his head, glancing back at the drunk guy who was already far down the road.

she sighed, a little shaken up. "its okay, really. not my first time. but thank you for stepping in."

"anytime, birdie. sorry to hear about that. what're you doing out here so late?" he wondered, hands stuffed in his pocket.

"i was just going for a walk to clear my head, what about you mister hawks?" she glanced up at him, admiring his mess of golden locks.

"just some late night patrolling. your wings are a landmark, I'm telling you. i can see them from the clouds." hawks voiced a little laugh, trying to lighten up the atmosphere since he noticed she was still shaken up.

she only tuned more bitter-

"yeah, I'm cursed by these damn things. and these dumb marking all over my face and body." she frowned, kicking at an invisible rock in her slippers.

hawks frowned too. she didn't like them? they were wonderful, anyone would be jealous.

he made no comment, not quite sure on what to say. he found himself walking her home since it was evident she was lost.

after a while, he finally spoke up.

"what were you thinking about?"

his voice caught her off guard, and she made eye contact with him.

"o-oh, well i was thinking about your job offer...I'm worried that if i take it I'll screw up or something. what if I'm a hindrance to you, o-or i mess up some mission or something. id be a terrible assistant!" her hands flew up in the air, shocking hawks with the sudden outburst.

he started laughing, a feather detaching to tickle her a little bit.

"trust me birdie, there's no way you could mess it up. i heard you did dull enrollment in high school and finished college and high school at the same time. your time managing skills are perfect. i heard from some of your old bosses from when you were younger that you're a great employee and you just lack confidence."

she giggled from the tickling and flushed at his knowledge about her.

"w-wha-...when did you talk to my old bosses?!" she grabbed his arm, then let go immediately fearing she was being too invading.

hawks kept laughing all the way to her gate, opening it for her and holding it open.

"relax. dress up nice and stop by the office tomorrow at 10, okay? just tell the receptionist your name and she'll send you up. sweet dreams, birdie." he waved, pushing y/n inside her yard and then shutting the door with a grin. he flew off immediately.

y/n sighed warrily, "guess he's my boss now."
