Whale sighed as he stared at the rising sun and thought of Snowstorm mournfully. Her perfect white scales, accented with silver, the way her arms, legs, and tail faded into pale icy blue. He imagined the freckles of dark blue that flecked her perfect snout and graceful wings. He thought about her laugh, her smile, and everything Whale loved about her. But she was gone from his life now. He sighed again, and Queen Dolphin stood up from where she was writing on a scroll.

"Whale, quit moping. You've been in this depressed, flat mood ever since the party, and that was five weeks ago. That's enough time to get over whatever happened. I don't control your life, but you are a free young dragon with not much responsibility, and you have barely enough reason to be moping around here, because you didn't just have one of your subjects murder two royal dragons and make us lose a perfectly good ally in this war just because someone wanted some revenge," Dolphin said, her voice rising a tone while she grit her teeth. She then stopped and took a deep breath, obviously trying to calm herself down. (Sequoia vibes, am I right) "what I'm saying is, as one of your legal guardians, I am telling you to get out and go for a swim or a fly. I'll get another dragon in here to guard me. When I was your age, twelve years ago, I was swimming and catching fish and playing with my friends." Queen Dolphin had always been kind to him, even when she didn't work for her, and Whale guessed it was because she was the one who had found him in the first place. Dolphin said that she had come out of the palace one morning and found Whale's egg sitting at the doorstep. Although frustratingly, she, and no one else, had been able to tell him why he was different. Why he couldn't see in the dark, or why his light-up scales glowed eerie silver when he lit them up. Why he didn't like swimming as much as other SeaWings. "Alright," Whale sighed, and took off towards the nearest beach.

When he landed there, he lay in the shallows of the water and started collecting shells. Out of the corner of his eye, he thought he saw the shadows flicker. He turned around and suddenly leapt at a tail that was poking out from behind a tree. He dug his talons into it, and the dragon whirled around, and said in an all-to-familiar voice, "Ack! Whale! Get off me!" Whale looked up and saw straight into the eyes of Snowstorm.
