"What do you mean?" Jacquelyn asked.

"I mean that Sunny has been kidnapped!" I said. "Her bed is right next to the window, and the window was open! Someone must have opened the window and kidnapped her!"

"Beatrice, have a seat," said Jacquelyn, gesturing to a chair. The night breeze whipped our hair, and I felt the shivers, mostly because of what had happened, and partly because of the cold air. "No!" I cried out. "Sunny's been kidnapped, and I'm not gonna wait for her, sitting on a chair until she comes back!"

"I said, have a seat," Jacquelyn said firmly, but kindly. I reluctantly sank into the chair. "You clearly look shaken up, Beatrice," she said. "I believe you, but have a glass of water to calm down." She took a cup and filled it up with the water tank next to us. I drank the water quickly, put it down on a table and faced her again.

"When are we going to save her? We're not gonna wait until morning, are we?"

"Of course not," said Jacquelyn. "I'll go wake up the staff. We need to get to her, now. You wake up Violet and Klaus, and whoever you feel needs to be on this mission. Get to it, asap."

I nodded and got up from the chair. I almost ran towards the boys dormitories, then realized I wouldn't be breaking any rules if I ran, so I did. I skidded to a stop in front of Klaus's room.

I knocked loudly as I could. "Klaus! Klaus, wake up!"

The door opened within two minutes. Klaus looked groggy from the sleep and he kept yawning. "What happened, Bee?"

"Sunny's been kidnapped!"

Klaus's face turned white. "What?!"

Five minutes later, I ran into the common room with Violet, Klaus, Flynn, Evan and Tabitha. My siblings, Flynn, and Evan looked shocked. Tabitha looked annoyed, but serious.

Jacquelyn was waiting with the rest of the staff. "Thank goodness!" she said. "Good job, Beatrice, that was fast. Are you sure you want all these people?"

I nodded. "Yes, of course."

Jacquelyn smiled. "I figured."

"Beatrice, was there anything in your room that might be some type of clue?" Larry asked.

"I don't know," I admitted. "I ran straight to Jacquelyn when I figured out Sunny's in trouble."

Violet took my hand. "Why don't you and I go look for some clues in your room?" "Ok," I agreed. "Tabitha and Flynn, you come too."

"Why us?" asked Flynn.

"You two are the best at deciphering clues and riddles," I explained. "Let's go."

Sunny's POV

I woke up in a small room. A tiny window in the very back of the room showed me it was the middle of the night. Yawning, I tried to stretched my hands, but then realized I couldn't; I was in a small cage.

"Ugh, not again," I groaned. "Kidnapped in a cage. Is there anything else they could come up with?"

Then I remembered that I was sleeping in my dorm, just a few hours ago. Where was I? "Where's Beatrice and the others?" I asked the room, as there was no one else in it. As I expected, no one answered.

I looked around to see what condition I was in. "This had better not be some training activity," I grumbled. I was in some birdcage, maybe the same one we'd trapped Count Olaf in, in that awful island. It sure looked the same. No one had tied or gagged me this time, which I thought was kind. Whoever kidnapped me obviously didn't have the guts to tie me up, I thought, a confident smile plastered on my face.

So, how to get out.. I noticed a small stone in the corner of the cage. It was small enough to slip through the bars. Other than that, there was nothing.

What would Violet and Klaus do?

Just then, the door creaked open a little, light covering the room. After a few seconds, the door was wide open, the light causing me to put a hand over my eyes. When I uncovered them, I saw a   woman, smiling at me evilly. It was Esme Squalor.

"Oh, you're awake," she said with mock surprise.

"What do you want? Why am I here?" I asked angrily.

"That's obvious, isn't it?" said Esme. "To distract your little friends at VFD. They'd come here to rescue you, no doubt, and with everyone gone at headquarters, guess who'd suddenly own all of your fancy gear!"

Her accent sounded so fake I cringed.

"I need new henchpeople, anyway," Esme said. "The people I have right now don't deserve to be working with me."

"Do I look like I care?" I asked.

Esme immediately turned serious. "Don't act smart with me, Sunny Baudelaire. You know how capable I can be."

I knew I shouldn't have said anything, but I couldn't help it. "Actually, I don't know, Esme. The last time I checked, you were as scary as a stuffed unicorn, am I right?"
