This whole situation is messed up. I knew that Dorthy was sleeping around. Hell, she slept with me too. That's why I'm glad Trent isn't mine.
I've always had a thing for African American women, but my family doesn't know that. If Trent was my child they would have a general idea of what I like in a woman. Eventually, that would lead to them creating profiles for me on every dating website in America.
As far as my family knows, women don't interst me. I don't plan on getting married, having babies, or falling in love.
Of course everyone is always telling me that I need to find a wife, but it isn't easy to put myself out there when I know that there is a possibility that the woman I choose to love can get hurt. That's exactly why I just hit and quit. I never lead women on. In fact, I learned that technique from my own family's experiences.
*Flashback*
"Where are your brothers and your mother?" My dad questions while running into the house.
"They're in the bedroom and mom went out to find you." I say scared.
"Why would she do something so stupid. She knows what it's like out there. They'll snatch her up and kill her instantly." He yells.
"Go find her. Everyone else is sleeping in the basement." I inform him.
"Keep them safe and if I don't come back you know what to do." He says running out of the house.
The last thing I see is the car lights disappearing from the driveway.
*Flashback Ends*
Dad didn't return until the next day. He dragged mama into the house for everyone to see her. They beat her so much until the blood was pouring from her side. The doctor said that she had a slim chance at living.
That night daddy had a session in the basement. All of us were worried about our mother and I don't think anyone was paying attention except for me.
Dad told us that having someone in your life that you love can cause more problems than a bullet.
What he was saying was contradictory to what he had been teaching us all those years. He always stressed the importance of having children to carry on our way of life.
A couple of weeks later mama recovered, but the family was never the same again. Mom and Dad didn't talk like they used to. It was like the whole family was split in half. Some of us were on mama's side and others were on dad's. That's why I promised myself that I would never put anyone in a situation with the kind of pressure and pain mama went through.

"What happened now?" I ask through gritted teeth.
For months my men have been searching for Jerome and whatever leads they have always seem to disappear. The task is simple. All they have to do is find the man and bring him to me.
"We found him, but our men are chasing him through the streets of downtown Chicago as we speak." Jeff says nervously.
That's the thing I hate about Jeff. He's always nervous. I mean seriously I am not that intimidating. All he has to do is bring back information.
