Unrequited

Grease Is The Word

So we'd known for some time now that the musical in which we're going to perform this spring was, the awesome, the spectacualr Grease!

Most of us had been practising a song, or perfecting a monologue for our up and coming auditions, but the day before the auditions, Rain and I still hadn't practised or even chosen something to perform.

"It has to be something from Grease!" Rain whined at me from my spot at my desk on my computer.

"But there's barely any conversations between Frenchie and Marty!" I said whilst intently combing through the script looking for any conversation that only consisted of Marty and Frenchie. I wanted to be Marty and Rain wanted to be Frenchie.

"Oh wait, I found one!" I screamed a little bit too loudly.

"Oh yes, well done, you're so brilliant!" Rain ran over and hugged me while she looked at the screen of my laptop with me.

"But it's the bedroom scene? With all the Pink Ladies." Rain seemed confused.

"Well it's the only one where there's more than 2 sentences said between our two characters!" I sighed, "I'll ring Ava and hopefully she can help us in our stupid scene! She does want to be a Pink  Lady afterall."

Ava agreed to do it with us as she hadn't even began to think about what she was going to perform ... Now i realise why we're all friends!

She came round my house straight away and we all crowded around my laptop to learn our lines.

We had to change quite a bit of it as we didn't have a Rizzo or a Sandy, but 2 hours later, we'd learnt out lines and had our set and movements all sorted out and ready to go, pretty much just in time. We'd already done our dance audition the day before; it was a crazy hyped up version of the hand jive.

So when Thursday came around, we all showed up to the lecture hall to do or audition ... Rain and I showed up in ... our onesies! Well it is a sleepover scene after all! 

We put out slippers on and went and took a seat next to Luke and Billy and some of our other friends.

One by one, people auditioned. The majority of the girls that were rehearsing sang a song from Grease, and there were a lot of girls that were auditioning for Rizzo so we heard 'There Are Worse Things I Could Do' at least a thousand time before our audition finally came around.

We were called up onto the stage, and everyone shouted remarks like;

"Oh surprise, surprise, Rain and Ally are auditioning together!"

"Oh here comes Rally!" I feel like we're a celebrity couple.

But we just laugh it off because we know there only joking. Plus the fact that they're jealous of our amazingly awesome friendship and that we're way too attached to each other. We quite often get remarks about how one day we're going to merge together and become Rally for real!

I stand on stage and introduce myself:

"Hi, I'm Alison Robson, but everyone calls me Ally so that there's no confusion between the other Alison in Drama soc!" I say and point at Alison who smiles back at me.... Did i mention she's the preisdent of Drama society? No? ...Yeah that's just another thing that makes her stupidly better than everyone else, "And I'm auditioning for the part of Marty."

As I say this, one by onem Rain and then Ava introduce themselves the same way, but I just stare at Fin. He's sitting behind Alison,Ginny, Lola and Clare, the whole committee on the right side of the room ... And he's just smiling at me. Kind of like a proud older brother, which makes me pull a funny face at him because I want him to adore me not protect me!
