My Brothers Friend

4. Getting Closer

It's been a couple of weeks and yourself and Q have been exchanging a lot of texts and meetings behind everyone's back. It's been a friendship thing and nothing has happened, but you can't help but feel happy and giddy around him, what if there's something else between the two of you?

Next week all the guys leave to go to University, you don't know yet where they're all going or if they're staying local. Today is the day they all come over to talk about where they've been accepted and whether they're moving away or not. It's a hot Saturday morning in the middle of summer, you wake up and tie your hair into a pony tail and get out of bed. You're wearing an oversized t shirt and some cycling shorts underneath it. You go downstairs to get some water and all the guys are already here, sitting at the kitchen table as usual, speaking about their future.

"Hey guys" you say with a slight smile
"Hey y/n" Joe says looking over at you
"So have you guys decided where you're going in September?" You ask
"Yea we've all decided" Ethan responds

You lift yourself onto the counter top opposite the table with a glass of water in your hands
"Well tell me then"
"I'll go first then, I'm going St John's University, it's in Queens" Sal replied
"I'm going LIU post in Brookville" Joe says

You raise your eyebrows at him
"Wow that's far, I'll miss you! Is anyone staying here in Staten Island then?" You ask
"Well I'm going to Georgetown University in Washington" Murr responds
You gasp "now that's so far oh my"

You look over at Q with a nervous smile, please stay close to home
"I'm going Brooklyn College" he says looking up at you. I sigh of relieve leaves your lips, you catch yourself and everyone looking at you
"Well at least someone is close! Ethan where are you going, does mum know" you say sipping your water. Everyone looks back down at their laptops avoiding eye contact with you.
"Why has everyone gone quiet?" You ask
"Yes mum knows, I'm going to UCLA" the room goes silent
"You're what" you say raising your voice. You hop off the counter and walk over to him

"Are you being serious" you say with tear filled eyes
"Yea, I know it's so so far away, I'll never come home, but it's an amazing scholarship"

You place your water onto the table in front of Q
"Well, I'm happy for you" you leave the kitchen and run up the stairs slamming the bedroom door behind you. You throw yourself onto your bed and under the covers and cry to yourself.

Your brother has been your rock your entire life, the two of you are so close and you can't imagine not being around him every day. Him moving across the country will absolutely break you, it's going to be so quiet at home, you'll have no one to mess around with, you're losing your best friend as well as your brother.

"Hey y/n" a voice says while slowly opening your door
"Go away I wanna be alone"
"It's Q" he says

You sit up from under your covers and wipe your eyes. He comes over and sits on your bed opposite you placing a hand on your leg which is under the blanket

"I know you two are close and it will be hard him being so far, but it's amazing he got accepted into UCLA"
"I know it is, I am happy for him but he's my best friend as well" you sniff
"Look on the bright side, I'm staying close, I'll only be in Brooklyn, you won't be alone" Q says with a smile on his face
"I won't be alone?" You look at him with a smirk
"I'm so into you, I'll be visiting you all the time" he catches what he's said and freezes. His face is blushing and his eyes are wide,

You let out a little giggle before shuffling closer to him
"Well, I'm glad you said it first... I feel the same, I'm really happy you're staying close Q" you reply

He smiles at you and his cheeks are a cute rose colour, he runs his fingers through his hair pushing his gorgeous brown hair back out of his face. The tension between the two of you is insane, but he's your brothers best friend

"But you're Ethan's best friend" you say with a sigh
"I know, but I think he'd prefer me over any of the other guys with you" you both laugh, but before you could finish the conversation Ethan is shouting for Q up the stairs

"Hey Q we are going to get food, hurry up" Ethan shouts
He turns and looks at you with a small smile, he stands up and leans over to place a kiss on your forehead before leaving the room. Your cheeks are bright red and a huge smile has appeared on your face.

You lay down on your bed once he leaves, a million thoughts and feelings running through your mind. God you really really like Q, but it feels weird, wrong even, because he's your brothers best friend, he saw you grow up since you were like 10, maybe younger, but at the same time it feels amazing sneaking around behind everyone's back, he knows so much about you and how you are, but you're only 17 and he's about to turn 19. You sit up to see Sal standing at your door

"Holy shit, you scared me Sal, I thought you were going for food?" You ask
"We are but I left my wallet in Ethan's room, is something going on with you and Q"

Your eyes widen and your cheeks blush. You take a deep breath and turn away so he doesn't see your face while you lie to him

"What? Ew god no, you guys are like my brothers, we've just been talking a lot recently, especially because he's staying close for Uni, I need a friend"

He raises an eyebrow at you, he doesn't seem convinced

"Hm alright, yea I understand, it'll be weird not having the guys around, but we will come back every now and then"

You smile at Sal nodding your head in agreement. He gives you an awkward smile before leaving your room and heading down the stairs
