"Love is for children," Natasha scoffed. "That's what I said to Loki, you know. Then I changed. Turns out my old self was better."
Steve gulped. He shook his head and grabbed Natasha's pale hand before she could leave. She glared at him.
"What?" Natasha spat. She narrowed her eyes.
"Nat," Steve said. "You need to calm down."
Natasha laughed, "Only my friends call me Nat. You can call me Agent Romanoff, thank you very much."
Steve opened his mouth to say something, then shut it, knowing Natasha was not in the mood for one of his lectures. Natasha took advantage of Steve's hesitation and slapped his hand away, making him let go of her. She stormed off, furious.
Natasha was scrolling through her phone anxiously, trying to call somebody, but it was to no avail. A tall shadow suddenly appeared on the floor she was staring at. She clenched her jaw and whipped out her 'in-case-gun' and pointed it at the unknown person. The moment Steve saw the gun in his face, he threw his hands up in the air, laughing.
"Nat, it's me," Steve stated.
Natasha stopped pointing the gun at him and put it inside her bag, then she huffed, "You can't scare me like that. We're on the run, you know. I can't take any chances."
Steve nodded and his eyes travelled to her phone. He tilted his head slightly and asked, "Who have you been trying to call?"
"Nobody, really," replied Natasha. "I've just been trying to see if people believe we're not criminals."
Raising an eyebrow, Steve leaned back on the pillar behind him. Just then, Natasha realised how funny he looked. He was wearing a red hood that barely covered his face, a pair of worn out sneakers and bruises were all over his body.
"Going as red riding hood this Halloween?" Natasha chuckled. Steve frowned and looked at his hood.
Steve protested, "It was the only thing that was left in the store and that could hide me! There's a thing called survival instincts."
"And there's also a thing called staying home."
Natasha's idea made Steve think twice. Why didn't he think of that? Oh, right.
Steve said, "I was searching for you."
"For what?" Natasha questioned.
"To make sure you were safe," explained Steve. Natasha looked into his ocean eyes and searched for any sign that he was lying. Then, she realised he had no reason to lie. Her heart fluttered a bit, but she stopped it, knowing that Steve only thought of her as a friend.
Natasha channeled her confusion into anger and made a confident/sneer comment, "Funny, I just remembered I could take care of myself."
"I know," Steve smiled. "Want to join me? I booked two tickets to another country, was hoping you'd agree to come."
"Ah, no thanks, I have pl..." Natasha stopped herself, then realised she'd be safer with Steve. "You know what, sure. Where are we headed?"
