-HIM-

"Let's see what happens when the Lycan King's mate dies," Levavine spoke slyly as she rose Celeste's body higher in the air. I could only watch as I held my brother under my sword.

My lycan was fighting me tooth and nail to let him out so that he could tear that bitch into pieces and take Celeste far away from this dangerous place. Though I couldn't do that. Doing that would only prove to her that my mate meant a great deal to me.

My hands were tied in a way, unlike my tongue.

"Then I'd like to see what happens to you when this pathetic motherfvcker dies," I said raising my sword high up in the air to cut my brother in half. In response, Levavine's eyes widened.

"EZEKIEL," Her growl was so powerful that the ground beneath my feet shook again but this time it didn't knock me off to my feet. I stood firmly, my eyes locked with her's with determination and fire burning in my own eyes.

I wasn't going to let her win in this at any cost.

"Go on," I dared her as I waved my sword dangerous close to my brother's face, "do it. Kill my mate and I will kill your pathetic son whom you love so dearly," I told her and the infuriated look on her face further satisfied me.

"You're playing with fire, Ezekiel," Levanine told me.

"And you're playing with molten lava, mother," I reminded her. "My brother still has a mortal body. He'll die but not me," She didn't look very pleased with this reminder but if anything, this further fuelled the fire that was burning in her eyes.

Even though I didn't show it on the surface but my insides were screaming at me to stop this anyhow. I couldn't sacrifice Celeste in this. She was completely innocent and I had already hurt and insulted her enough to loath myself for the rest of the eternity. If she dies because of me then there would be no point in living at all.

"I don't believe that a Lycan wouldn't be affected by a mate's death," Levavine spoke before several tentacles rose from the water. My eyes widened.

Not that monster!

"LEVAVINE!" I growled. At that moment, I had forgotten that I was still holding Balthazar under me. A devilish smile stretched on her lips as the monster slowly rose from the river water. I watched in horror as its tentacles edged closer to Celeste but before they could wrap around her body, a loud thunder cracked the sky in half.

Everything froze for a moment. A thunder in this weather was something unusual. I already guessed that it was just another god, meddling in this to make it harder for me and I was right.

It was a goddess.

Inanna.

I was seeing blood for the third time that day when she appeared in front of us.

"This is happening all because of you," I growled at her because I just couldn't hold myself back anymore. Celeste was completely innocent yet it was because of these gods that she was here, being scarified because of me. "I will kill you once I'm out of here, Inanna," I threatened her.

A look of annoyance climbed on my mother's face as she looked at the pairer.

"Hold your tongue, Ezekiel. You're on the verge of losing this war. I'm a pairer but I'm also the goddess of war," she reminded me and I instantly shut up from cursing more at her. Next, she turned to my mother.

"Levavine, she is innocent. Let her go," I was surprised to hear Inanna say that to my mother.

"No," Levavine growled, "That bastard has my son. My actual son,"

"I know," Inanna replied, "But he deserves to be here but that she-wolf doesn't. Hand her over to me if you don't any consequences, Levavine,"

"What will you do?" Levavine asked, narrowing her eyes at the goddess.

"A lot more things than you could think of," Inanna replied darkly.

"Tell him first to let go of my son," Levavine demanded.

"That would be done only when you hand her over to me, Levavine, and don't even think of being sly. Everyone is watching this right now. Just one wrong move and you will only exist in Thastonia's history books," Inanna's threat sounded serious enough and it seemed to have intimidated Levavine.

For a moment I was glad that Inanna was here but at the same time, I couldn't help but be suspicious of her. Was she doing this just to get into my good books? If so then she'd have to work harder and if she thought that she could make me do favors for her by doing this then I'd be proving her wrong soon after this.

"First, tell him to let go of my son," Levavine gritted, giving me a deathly glare.

"Ezekiel you heard her," Inanna told me and I couldn't help but grow in response before I finally stepped over my brother and kicked him in the stomach.

"Now, it's your turn, Levavine," Inanna reminded. Levavine finally let go of Celeste. I felt my life return unto my body when I was finally able to hold her in my arms but she was unconscious though she looked completely unharmed and seemed to be breathing. I glared at Levavine and Inanna as a token of gratitude to finally get my mate back.

"Don't think this is over, brother," Balthazar spat at me as he gave me one of his death glares. "This was just a tie. I will go to war with you again and this time it's going to be bloodier," He promised. The expression hanging on his face screamed that he meant each and every word he'd said.

Inanna looked slightly discomforted at his words but she soon interfered, "We'll see about that,"

"We will see," Levavine threatened before a huge wave washed over the riverbank, swallowing my brother and his army until, me, Celeste, Inanna, and my army remained.

"Don't think that this will put you in my good books," I told Inanna before she could disappear in a puff of smoke.

"I don't want to be in your good books," She told me grimly, "I was here for her. Not for you," And with that, she left.
