Tommy took slow, shaky steps into the trial room, flinching as podiums rose from the ground in a circular shape. It was set up so you could see everybody's face. Each one had somebody's name on the front of it, indicating that it was meant for them to stand at.
Where Phil would have stood was a sign with a photo of his face on it, a giant pink X blocking it. Tommy felt nauseated looking at it. One person dead, one more- or all to go depending on if they guessed this right. And with their lack of evidence, he didn't believe that they would.
The room wasn't very large, the majority of it being taken up by the podiums, but it was very tall. In the wall was a rectangular opening with a desk and a seat. Gure-ga sat on the desk, his eyes moving rapidly around the room as everybody got into their places.
The air grew heavy as silence plagued the room. Tommy noticed a couple of students looking around at each other, likely trying to see if anybody was more nervous than normal-- if anybody looked suspicious.
But at the moment, it was hard to tell through body language. Almost everyone was just as nervous as each other. This was the first trial- nobody knew what to expect, and yet their lives relied on figuring it out quickly.
Tommy let out a mild sigh of relief when Gure-ga spoke. If he heard it through the speakers, he think his head would explode. That static sound was awful - migraine-inducing, honestly.
"Alright students, before the trial starts, let me give you a quick recap on all the rules and yada-yada," Gure-ga announced, leaning his feet up on the table and relaxing. "During the trial, you'll be presenting your arguments for who the killer is, and at the end, you will all be voting for 'whodunnit!'"
Tommy tried to recap everything he knew in his head. Everything he wanted to present in the trial. Maybe they could get out of it alive- maybe there was a chance.
"If you guess the killer correctly, they will be executed and all of you will be allowed out of this room. If you don't, the killer will be allowed back into the real world, and the rest will be executed," Gure-ga explained, a gleeful smile spread across his face as though this was good news.
Tommy took a deep breath in. They had to get this right. Or they would die. They would die.
