(Here's a one-shot to keep you guys entertained until the next chapter comes out, lol)

The small boy twirled his hair, gazing into the flowing stream in front of him. The water shone in crystal hues, and the surrounding forest had an unusual blue tint, earning it the nickname, "The Artificial Woods." That wasn't the only nickname Kokichi's favorite spot had. It was also known as the Weeping Cliffs, the Blue Death, the Dying Half, and many more, none of which made it sound like a very safe spot.
A blue forest at the edge of a cliff?! Going there is a death wish!

Just not to Kokichi.

To him, it was a safe place.

A place where he didn't have to lie or hide.

He sought out the peace of his crystal forest often. He went there everyday, reading, listening to music, dreaming about what could have been. Today, he was reading.

It wasn't the first time he had read the small book he had brought. He had read it over and over again, ten, fifty, maybe even a hundred times. Others asked him, "Doesn't it ever get boring, reading that story so many times?"
But, it never did. It always brought him peace, and comfort. Each time he read it he felt safer and happier than the last.

It was a tale of long, long ago. About a world united, rather than split into two. The book told a tale of adventure, sorrow, joy, and loss. And Kokichi's favorite part of it- It didn't have a happy ending. It told a story about real life, not about a fantasyland where everyone is happy and smiling at the end. It didn't end with the world being reunited- It ended in the way that the event had ended in real life.

"And so, the two sides, unable to see past their own selfish rage, were forever split apart before they destroyed themselves and each other. One side of the world lit up with hope for a new beginning, the other filled with despair as their cries for help were lost, blocked out by the happiness the other side had obtained. They had both done equally horrible things, so why did one side get punished while the other thrived?

Because, nothing is fair. Hope and Despair must balance each other out. There will be no happiness without suffering. It is an equation with only one answer. Zero."

Setting down his book, Kokichi stood up. Before he could turn around and return to the misery that awaited him, he saw something on the other side of the cliff.

A boy with navy hair, a girl with long, dark twintails. A tall boy with spiky magenta hair, and a pretty blond with gorgeous pink eyes.

They were there every day.

They laughed, they danced, they struggled, they prevailed. Because they had each other.

He had nobody.

Kokichi longed for what they had, but knew it would never happen.

For the world needed balance, and he would gladly suffer to let them stay together. He knew his role, and he had accepted it.

"If I could have any wish in the world, it wouldn't be to join you in your fun. It wouldn't be for you all to suffer so I could be happy. If I could make one wish.."

"It would be to have met you in a world where nobody has to suffer at all."
