Drawing was my favorite thing to do every time we visited New York. The way the buildings climbed up to greet the sky, the way the clouds seemed to puff up more here than in England...it was all so beautiful. Today was a sunny day. The sunshine left a warm feeling on my skin and filled my head with pleasant thoughts. I looked back up at the scene from my hotel room balcony. If you looked far enough out, the buildings looked like someone had placed a transparent, blue film in front of them, blanketing them in cool colors. I couldn't illustrate that in a mere black-and-white sketch, though, so I just shaded the buildings farther back a little darker than the rest.

John and Paul were staying in a friend's apartment, but I wasn't too fond of the idea, so I'd gotten myself and Julian a hotel room just down the road, in the hotel that John and Paul were doing all of their interviews in. The two of them were promoting Apple Corps, a corporation that they had started back in January, and they were doing a lot of interviews.

"Mummy? When's Daddy and Uncle Paw gonna be back?" Julian's groggy voice pulled me from my thoughts and grounded me again. I dropped my pencil and turned around, smiling when I saw the little boy rubbing his eyes. I held out my arms and motioned for him to come and sit with me. His feet shuffled and I reached forward when he was within arm's reach, pulling him onto my lap. He leaned his head against my chest.

"They'll be back soon, I'm sure," I replied. "Uncle Paul is gonna take you out for a little while. That alright, Jules?"

"So you and Daddy can talk?" he asked, putting a dopey grin on his face as he raised his eyes to look at me.

I nodded. "That's right." I smiled too.

"I hope we can live with Daddy again," he said, laying his head back down and snuggling up closer to me.

"I do too, Jules," I responded, and I felt awful as I listened to him. I felt awful for making him live even longer in two separate homes. I often thought about how what John and I were doing affected him, but I tried not to because it honestly made me ill to do that.

Even though John and I had taken a huge step in getting back together, I was still a little reluctant to move back in with him, which was bloody ironic considering I always wanted to be around him. I was scared that as soon as we started living together again, John would fall right back into his previous routines. I was scared that he'd start acting out of line again.

"Mummy," Julian said.

"Yes, love?" I responded, running my hands through his hair calmingly.

"Will you ever have a baby?" he asked and my eyes widened in shock because I had not Vern expecting that question...well...ever.
