~Canaan's Dream~
Canaan paced the inside of his house in front of a fireplace, while holding a glass of water. His thoughts were wondering to a trial that was coming up; he was being charged with murder of a mortal woman that he did not know or associate with since she was a human, however there was evidence against him.
A young woman walked into the room and stood a few feet away from him. Her beautiful long, perfectly straight, dark hair flowed down her back and her blue gray eyes sparkled in the light of the fire. She stood in a dark blue dress with brown boots on, her sword clinging to her side. Her face was full of concern as she stared at Canaan, her eyes pleading with him.
"Canaan, we must do something." She pleaded to him. "We cannot stand here and not do nothing! They are blaming you for something you did not do! We must leave this place."
Canaan shook his head and slammed the glass onto the table. "To where would we go?" He yelled. "Are you forgetting that I am bound to this place until my trial! I have no where to go!"
"However, we know who committed the crime Canaan!" The girl yelled back. "We just have to tell the Council that-"
"That what?!" He interrupted. "That some man who looked just like me killed that human woman? There is no evidence to prove that, all the evidence points to me! And the person who really did this gets away with it!"
"There must be a way-" she said.
"There is no other way! Can you not get that through your stupid head!" Canaan screamed, making the girl jump in fright.
The girl fell silent to Canaan's rage, he shook his head and slowly walked up to her as he placed his hand on her cheek. She looked up at him with tearful eyes, her sadness tearing him apart inside.
"Please do not give up Canaan." The girl cried softly. "I do not want to lose you. If I lose you then I have no clue what will happen to me."
Canaan kissed her forehead as he caressed her cheek. "I will not give up my love." He said. "I promise Mariah, no matter what happens I will always be able to keep you safe, nothing will happen to you."
*************************************
The dream suddenly ended as Canaan jerked awake, panting loudly and drenched with sweat. The dream took him by shock, never having a dream that felt so real. The fear, anger, hatred, and love he felt in that dream made it feel as though it was actually a memory rather then a dream. He shook the dream away and turned the lamp on next to the bed, looking around. He was not in his own room.
The room was a light blue with beautiful furniture and a canopy bed he laid on. He sat up in the bed slowly as his head began to throb, he lifted a hand to his head where a bandage had been placed, his arm also wrapped with gauze from where Christopher had cut him. He also noticed he was shirtless and in pair of black sweatpants. He looked over toward the window where his clothes laid folded in a chair.
'Where am I?" He thought to himself. He stood up and walked over to the chair, his clothes were neatly folded and clean. He quickly dressed and walked around the room.
A soft knock came at the door as it slowly opened. The woman who saved him walked into the door and greeted him with a nod, in her hands was a tray of food. She sat it on the table next to the door and look toward him. Canaan refused to look at her.
"Please come sit Canaan." She beckon softly as she sat down in the chair. "We need to talk."
"Talk about what?" Canaan snarled at he looked at her. "I think it is you who should be talking. I wake up in a strange house to a strange woman after she rescued me from a man who was trying to kill me. This is kidnapping. So honestly, you should be providing the answers."
" I am fully aware of the customs and laws of South Carolina." She stated. "However I do not think your laws and customs can overcome the Holy One's power. He is the one that created law and order for the earth."
Canaan shook his head in disgust. "You claim your loyalty to God?" He asked. "You are a lunatic. God would not allow a demon to try and kill me; then have a very beautiful woman save me. Trust me, I was raised in church and this stuff does not happen!"
"Sit Canaan!" The woman yelled as she stood. Her eyes and necklace glow bright as her rage flared, making the ground shake under their feet. Canaan slowly stepped back in fright, sitting down in a chair far from her. She calmed herself and sat back down in her chair.
"Now that I have your attention," she said coldly. "We have some things to discuss. First off I will introduce myself, my name is Mariah Hathaway, Guardian Angel Rank#1. "
"Mariah?" Canaan asked shocked.
Mariah looked at him confused. "Yes I just said that?" She said sarcastically.
"I had a dream about you and I said your name." Canaan claimed. "What is going on?"
"You are starting to remember." Mariah said softly.
Canaan looked confused as well. "Remember what?" He asked.
"Just hold on and let me finish what I have to say first." She said softly. "Like I said I am Guardian Angel Rank#1, protector of those who are lost and destroyer of those you try to hurt and sway the decision of the lost ones. And this may come as a shock to you Canaan, but I am also your wife."
Canaan shook his head. "That is impossible. I am only eighteen, I do not have a wife." He stated. "I think I would remember if I had a wife, lady."
"That is the thing though Canaan." She said sadly. "All your memories have been taking away from you. Canaan, you use to be one of the few special Angels to God. You were the highest rank in your class as a Warrior Angel. We fell in love and got married, however that all ended very quickly. You were accused of killing a young girl by the name of Stephanie Blackwood, she was mortal who did no harm. Even the DNA that was found on her body pointed to you. However, you were not on earth that night when it happened, you were with me. Even though we told the Council of Angels that, they arrested you and took you to trial for that poor girl's death. Your sentence was a hundred years as a mortal and had your memories taken from you; you became the Fallen One."
She explained it all to him, but for some reason he sill could not fathom what she was trying to tell him. Was he really an angel? Did he fall from Heaven like Lucifer did in the Bible? Was he really the husband of this woman named Mariah in front of him? Is he what she was calling the Fallen One?
'I cannot be what she says.' Canaan thought to himself. 'I am Canaan Hathaway,an eighteen year old boy in high school with no expectations of what I am going to be once I get out of college. This lady must be crazy.'
He looked at her with confusion and spoke his first words to her.
"How?" He asked in a confused voice. " How is all this nonsense possible?"
Mariah sighed sadly. "The only reason you question me is because you have no memory of your time in Heaven and being an angel." she said sadly. " As I have explained, you were one of few special angels to God himself, but then you were accused for murder and high treason. Crimes you did not commit."
Canaan nodded. "Okay." It still did not make any sense, but something inside of him was telling him to trust her. As much as he did not want to believe her, he did. As much as He wanted to walk away from this nonsense, he stayed and listened. He asked her to tell him more about the life they had together before he become human again. She told him how they grew up together in Heaven after their untimely deaths as young children on earth. She said it was a love that grew over time until they married. They were only married for a few days when he was accused of the charges that sent him to earth. She also told him how she spent eighteen years looking after him, watching him grow and become a man. She wanted him back as soon as he came of age, but she could not interfere with the sentence.
Mariah spoke of him as if she had known him as long as she said she did. For hours, she talked nonstop about his and her adventures, of their love and how it was talked about though out Heaven. Even though he did not remember anything of what she spoke of, it still put a smile on his face. Mariah looked at him with a soft smile when she saw him smiling.
"Do you believe me?" she asked as she patiently waited for his answer.
"I do not think I have any other choice but to believe you." He said. "I am sorry that I have put you through all this, it must have been hard to go through."
"It was tough and sometimes I wanted to give up." She said calmly
"Why did you not?" He asked curiously
"Because I knew you were innocent of your crimes." She said. "And that I loved you. Your love was what helped me through every single day I was without you."
At that moment, some memories came back to him in one sudden flash. The highlight memories of him and Mariah in Heaven: their wedding, the trial, the look on Mariah's face before he was sent to the earth, even the last kiss of goodbye lingered on his lips eighteen years later. He started to remember what his life was before his human life. She had explained it to him earlier and he did not understand, but now it was starting to make perfect sense.
