Canaan slowly awoke from his deep sleep, opening his eyes to see that he was laying in the canopy bed he found himself in yesterday. He squinted at the sun as it came through the open window, the cool fall breeze flowing into the room.
He turned over and saw the empty spot where Mariah was suppose to be. He sat up in the bed and looked around. Mariah was no where in sight. The smell of bacon and biscuits caught his attention. He slowly stepped out of bed and walked over to the chair that had fresh clean clothes laying in it, he put on his clothes and walked to the door to open it.
He stepped out of the room and walked down the hall. Following the memories of the home that he once built, the smell of food getting stronger as he walked further. He entered the kitchen to see Mariah sitting crossed legged in a chair at the dinning room table, with a plate of half eating food. She was staring out of a big window into the pretty sunny day, her facial seemed pretty content with herself, like she had finally relaxed for the first time in a while. Her long hair shimmered in the light of the sun, she was fully dressed in a v neck black shirt and skinny jeans with her knee high black leather boots.
Canaan looked to the other side of the table and spotted a plate of food at a empty seat, he slowly walked over to Mariah and placed both hands on her shoulders, she leaned her head back and smiled at him.
"Good morning." She stated with a smile.
"Good morning to you as well." Canaan said softly as he leaned down kissed her gently on the lips, the electricity still flowed through him as he kissed her. He lifted up and walked over to the other side of the table and began to eat his food. As he ate, Mariah stared at him softly, not saying a word. She watched as he finished and pushed his plate away. Canaan looked at her confused.
"Is everything okay?" He asked. "Why are you staring at me like that?"
Mariah shook her head. "I haven't seen you in eighteen years. I just want to sit here and stare at you." She stated. "You have no idea how much I missed you."
Canaan laughed. "By what my body and mind tells me is that I have missed you to." He said. "However, it is hard to bring back feelings I had for you. I have no clue what they are or where to begin or what to say. It is kind of odd for a woman to appear out of nowhere and say 'hey I am your wife'. I am trying to take it slow, my memories are slowly returning and with the memories come the feelings of the memory as well."
Mariah's face fell, tears slowly fill her eyes. The shock he just sent through her made him feel terrible. He just basically sat there and told her that he does not know how to love her again, he stood up and quickly rushed to her side, placing his hands on her arms as he kneeled.
"Mariah please do not cry." He pleaded. "What I sense in my mind is love for you, but I do not know how to express it. Our lives were torn apart and my memories stolen from me. Give me the chance to love you again and when my memories fully return, I will be able to give you that love back."
Mariah nodded as she wiped the tears away from her eyes. Her stormy gray eyes were still beautiful as she cried for him. He wish that he could fix her broken heart, but he could not until he fixed himself.
He stood up, pulling her up with him and into his embrace. He let her cry on his shoulder, a woman of strength was completely broken before him. Of course she would be though, the man she loved dearly was another person who was leading another life.
Her racking sobs finally slowed down to small whimpers, finding comfort in her lover's embrace. Once she stopped, she pulled away from him and dried her eyes. Canaan smiled at her.
"You are still beautiful even when your crying." He said.
Mariah nodded. "You always told me that when I cried. You thought it would make me feel better." She said. "Which it does make me better."
Canaan nodded back and grabbed her hand, leading her to the living room to sit down on one of the couches. She leaned her head against his shoulder and dozed off.
It wasn't even minutes after Mariah fell asleep that Canaan started to experience pain in his head again. He cried out in pain, startling Mariah. He kneeled to the ground and held his head as the pain increased, visions of something he had never seen before. A vision of a dark haired man standing before him, laughing hysterically as Canaan reveled in pain. His piercing red eyes and glowing red pendant haunted Canaan's mind, giving him the impression of a dark force.
The man kneeled down in front of Canaan, curiously looking at him.
"Human still I see." The man stated. "Well I was hoping this would be a challenge to kill you, but I guess I will just have to settle for the latter."
"What..do you...want from...me." Canaan rasped as the pain increased even more.
The man shook his head. "Weak!" He yelled at Canaan. "You were always weak brother! Eighteen years I was trapped in that mortal body, seeing you and I grow up happily together. Never unhappy with each other. Now those memories make me sick to my stomach. I, your brother, never really cared about you. I wanted you dead Canaan."
Canaan slowly backed away from him in fear, still squinting in pain. He could not believe that his brother was this man. He did not look like himself. Matthew was his younger brother, they did everything together: sports, classes, family dinners, etc. They were practically best friends growing up and now he is the enemy.
"Why?" Canaan rasped.
"Because I hate you more then any other enemy you have." Matthew stated. "Never in my thousand years of being a demon have I ever loathed somebody so much. And soon, your death will be at my hands. Which I will gladly accept."
"I... Will.. Kill you!" Canaan rasped out a scream.
Matthew laughed. "I will be coming very soon Canaan." He stated. "I hope your ready to fight, because once I am finished with you. Your wife will suffer much more then you. See you soon Canaan."
At once, the pain and vision stopped. Canaan's heavy panting slowed down as he turned to Mariah, whose concerned look pained him even more because of what he had saw.
"Matthew is coming for us." Canaan said.
Mariah's eyes widen with fright. "What? No it cannot be." Mariah stated. "We need to leave this place quickly. If he finds us, we will not be able to kill him."
"What why?" Canaan asked.
Mariah shook her head. "Because only you can kill him." She claimed. "That is why he is choosing to attack now because if you are still human then you cannot hurt him. Your powers and his powers are the same, which makes you both unique. Which means the only two people that can kill him is God and you."
Canaan lowered his head in defeat. "Then how can I protect you?" Canaan asked. "Is there anyway for me to temporarily receive my powers back?"
Mariah shook her head. "I am not sure Canaan." She stated. "Maybe prayer to God and ask Him to give you the strength to face your demons. However, we must quickly leave this place before they come for us."
Canaan nodded and watched Mariah as she stood up and walked into the next room. He bowed his head and drawn his knees into his chest, leaning his head against them. He began to pray.
"God, I know I have not done this in a very long time." He stated to himself. "I know you and I have not been on the best of terms lately, however I see now that I was wrong about you. I see you in everything I see now: the sky, the rows of grain outside, the smiles of a child, I even see you in that beautiful woman in the next room who I just discovered is my wife. God, I ask for your forgiveness. I know I have been wrong for these last eighteen years and I am truly sorry for what I have done in this life and my past life as while. Will you please help me with this burden that his come upon me, I have not faced this enemy before and I am afraid that I will not be able to protect Mariah. Please God, I beg of you. Amen."
Tears streamed down his face as he ended his prayer, pleading for help from God. He hoped now escaping this house will help them now.
