As dusk approached, Canaan and Mariah were prepared to leave the home for a safer place, which Mariah has yet to reveal. The vision Canaan saw had frighten Mariah to the point that she even gave Canaan his weapon that he use to own back in his life as an angel. The sword was very large, double edge sword with a black and silver handle. He tested it and found it heavy, but usable to defend himself.
Mariah set her stuff on the bed and looked at Canaan. "Are you ready?" She asked with a stern look on her face, hiding her fear.
"Yes." He stated placing the sword down.
Mariah nodded. "Let me just go grab a couple of more things and we will be ready." She stated as she quickly walked out the door.
Canaan patiently waited for her return by sitting in one of the chairs beside the bed. He was happy that he was leaving with Mariah, maybe their journey will help him with remembering more of his life before the one he has now, also it would give time for him and Mariah to spend together. He wanted to learn more about the woman who was his wife, he only remembered tiny fragments of their life. He wanted to know everything about her and how she came into his life, making him fall in love with her like he is now.
Several minutes passed by and Mariah had still not returned back to the room, Canaan was confused because she should have already been back. She was in a hurry and knew she was in no mood to play around.
Canaan picked up the sword from the bed and slowly walked to the door. Entering the hallway, he held the sword level with his body. Keeping his defense in case something was wrong.
"Mariah!" Canaan called out. He heard no answer. He continued to walk into the living room and look around. There was no sign of Mariah in the living room or in the kitchen, he then slowly walked up the stairs calling her name.
He had a strange feeling about the room at the end of the hall, he walked toward the room and placed his hand on the doorknob. Slowly, he twisted the doorknob and opened the door. To his horror, he walked in to see Mariah laying in the floor unconscious with his brother standing over here, holding the glowing blue pendant that she wore around her neck.
Matthew looked up at Canaan and smiled darkly. "Come in Canaan, I was waiting for you." He stated.
"What did you do to her!" Canaan yelled as he rushed to her side, he kneeled her and placed her head in his lap, brushing away the hair in her face.
"I knocked her unconscious of course." Matthew scoffed. "Do you think I would kill her yet? I have to much planned for you Canaan to kill your wife just yet."
Canaan looked up at him with anger in his eyes. "Let her go." He stated. "I will stay and let you do whatever you want with me Matthew, just give her back the pendant and let her walk free."
"Why should I do that Canaan?" Matthew asked as he kneeled in front of Canaan. "You see, even if I let her leave her. She will never stop trying to find you. Trust me, I know because I have seen it myself when you leave and she patiently waits for you to come back. Like a lost puppy who seeks the person that loves them dearly. She is, however, such a beautiful creature. Unique in every way, strong spirt and the will to fight. You are the one that holds her back, you weakening her."
Matthew held up Mariah's necklace, it slowly swaying as it glowed a dull blue. In his head, Canaan knew that pendent was very important to Mariah, if anything were to happen to it then Mariah would suffer greatly.
"Now why don't you be a good husband and place your sword away from you." Matthew said as he clutched the necklace in his hand. "Or I will break this and Mariah will never be the same."
Canaan glared at Matthew, but obeyed what he asked. Canaan tossed the sword a few feet away. The sound of the steel sword hitting the ground awoke Mariah, she groaned as she placed a hand on her head. Opening her eyes, she looked straight at Canaan, her look relaxed even though she knew Matthew was in the room.
"Canaan are you okay?" Mariah asked.
"Yes." Canaan asked. "I need you to stand up and stand behind me."
"No you stand behind me." Mariah said as she stood up. She turned to face Matthew, revealing that he had her pendent.
"Why are you even here Matthew?" Mariah snarled. "Have you not done enough to us? You have been set free! You can go do whatever you like and leave us alone."
Matthew shook his head. "You both took my life away as well!" He yelled. "When I was tricked into framing Canaan, those Angels turned their back on me as well by hardwiring your DNA to mine so that I would fall with you. They rid of me as soon as they rid of you. It is your fault! You are the reason I suffered for eighteen long years!"
Canaan glared at Matthew. "I do not know what you are talking about." He said. "However, from what it sounds like you were screwed over by the people that screwed me over. We should allies, not enemies Matthew. I am your brother, we are family."
"Not anymore." Matthew stated. "You will pay for all of this. You and your whore will pay for everything I went through as your brother!"
Suddenly, Mariah tackles Matthew to the floor. The necklace is tossed up in the air and landed on the floor in front of the Canaan's feet. Canaan quickly picked it up and looked toward Mariah and Matthew, who both struggled on the floor.
"Canaan, put the necklace on!" Mariah yelled as she punched Matthew.
Canaan looked down at the necklace, it glowed bright blue as he held it in his hand. He felt the power surge through the necklace, almost an distance feeling of power he use to have. A magic more powerful than any other was calling his name through the necklace, beckoning him to place the necklace around his neck. This was the answer to his prayer, God was really with him.
"Now Canaan!" Mariah shouted as Matthew threw her against the wall. He did as he was commanded and preceded to put on the necklace. The stone began to glow bright green as the power began to surge throughout his body,a bright light consumed him entirely. He could no longer see Mariah and Matthew as his body began to feel light. His mind was suddenly thrown back into a small white room, it only contained a steel table and two chairs, one of each side of the table. He stared to glance around for a way out as he stood up.
"Canaan Hathaway." A strong voice called out.
He looked back over to the table to see a tall man sitting at the table in a black polo and worn out blue jeans with black boots, he had short brown hair and vibrant green eyes. His lips formed a smile as Canaan sat down in front of him. He knew the man seemed familiar, however he could not figure out who the man was.
"Who are you?" Canaan asked with a curious look on his face, trying to figure out the man.
The man laughed at his question. "I have many forms and many names my son." The man chuckled. "However, if you like you can call me J.C."
"J.C?" Canaan asked. "Okay J.C, so where are we?"
"We are in a place in your mind." J.C stated. "This is where we can discuss anything Canaan. You are seeking your memories and powers back as an Angel, correct?"
"Yes." Canaan stated.
"Then you may have them back." J.C said as he placed a hand on the table, under his hand a box appeared. He grabbed the box and handed it to Canaan, who opened it quickly. In the box, a pendant just like Mariah's laid in it.
Canaan looked up at J.C with a shocked look of surprise. J.C smiled at Canaan's look of surprise, J.C waved his over the necklace and it begin to glow green.
"Everything you had in your previous life is in this necklace." J.C explained. "All your memories and powers will be restored once you have placed the necklace around your neck. You will gain back the strength to defeat Matthew. However Canaan, there is one thing I must tell you before you return."
"Sir?" Canaan asked softly.
"This will not stop Matthew." J.C claimed. "He will keep coming back until a moment of true sacrifice has been giving. Only then will he be truly defeated, he will have many followers that will attack you and your family. However, once you figure out the sacrifice, act on it quickly."
Canaan looked confused, but nodded in agreement as he picked up the necklace. It glowed a soft blue as Canaan picked it up and placed it around his neck.
J.C nodded at Canaan. "One of my greatest Angels." He stated. "I am so proud of my son. Use your powers for greatness. Your Grace has been restored."
Then it hit Canaan full force, he looked up at J.C and knew who he was. He was the savior. Before Canaan could speak, he was sent back out of his mind and back into the real world. The light around his body faded and he was able to see Matthew and Mariah again.
Matthew looked at him with anger. "What have you done!" Matthew screamed as he drew his sword out to point to Canaan. Canaan just simply stared at his brother, no emotion registered on his face. As he stared, he he extended his arm to the side and held out his hand. A flaming sword began to form in his hand, the flames not burning Canaan's hand. He then pointed it at Matthew, whose eyes widen with fear.
"How did you do that?" Matthew asked in fright.
"Let's just say somebody gave me my Grace back." Canaan said as he pointed the flaming sword at Matthew, the flames slowly fading.
With no warning, Mariah jumped onto Matthew's back, stabbing him in the shoulder with her sword. Matthew screamed in pain as he grabbed Mariah and tossed her over him. She hits the hardwood floor with a thud and does not get back up.
Canaan's quickly took his chance and charged Matthew with his sword. Raising his sword above his head, Canaan placed it in a horizontal position as Matthew slammed his own weapon down hard to slice Canaan's skull.
The next swing had come from the right toward Canaan's throat. Holding the sword vertically, Canaan defended his neck by slicing his down hard, causing Matthew to lose balance and spin to the right to keep from falling.
Matthew cursed Canaan as he swung his weapon over head, only to meet Canaan's sword head on with a loud metallic scream. As he used his wrists to hold to the sword evenly, Canaan swung the sword from the left to the right directly in front of his body.
Matthew's next attack met a humiliating failure. Caught up in a circular motion of Canaan's sword, his sword went flying overhead and ten feet away.
Canaan pointed his sword at Matthew, who was laughing.
"You think you can kill me brother?" Matthew asked. "I am invincible."
"The only reason you wanted me dead brother is because I am the only person under God that can kill you." Canaan sneered as Matthew's eyes widened with terror. "Yes I regained all my memories back Matthew. Killing you will be no problem of mine. Now burn in Hell Matthew!"
Canaan charged Matthew and stabbed him through his heart. Matthew screamed in pain as the sword went through him, catching flame as it stayed in him.
Canaan stood back and watched as Matthew busted into flames and turned into ashes in front of him, the sword dropping to the floor with a loud metal thud. Canaan then turned his attention to his wife who was slowly standing up, he rushed over to her and grabbed her by the waist pulling her into a hug.
"It is over now." Canaan whispered in her ear as she wrapped her arms around her neck. "It is finally over."
Mariah placed her head in the crook of his neck, holding on to him tightly. Afraid of letting him go.
