"Its Dracillion Demetre, but do call me Drace."
Drace, such a beautiful name, Athene thought.
"Well, it is a pleasure to meet you, Drace. I am glad I found you, right now."
"Ah, falling for me so soon?" Drace, smirked.
"Ugh, cut it out. i'm glad, I found you, because I accidentally took your book, yesterday."
"Oh, well, thank you, for returning it to me."
His eyes, so dark. So beautiful, they were like two endless pools of a pure midnight sky, reaching out to the universe.
"You're staring. Like what you see, eh?"
He chuckled, and ran his hands through his dark tousled hair, which now fell into his eyes.
"Athene."
"Please, Drace, I don't have time for this-"
Her breath, was cut short as he took a step closer, and now she could feel his warm breath on her face, and her own breath hitched, leaving her stunned And breathless. He stared deep in her eyes, they were like an icy ocean, enough to relief you of burns, but capable of drowning you, and turning you to shards before shattering you. Something flickered in her eyes, but it was gone all too quick, but not quick enough for him to not take notice.
"What's your full name?"
He asked, and she broke out of her reverie.
"Its Athene La Rue."
"Wait, you're Cassian's Sister?"
The name of her brother, assaulted her brain, with images of them together, happy, and thriving. Not giving a damn, about what might happen tomorrow.
Her eyes lost all the warmth she had, and turned ice cold.
"Yes."
"He called you Athe, right?"
Pain, flickered across her face.
"Yes. but how do you-"
"Ah well, I know him."
'Know him' ? Athene realised, he did not know that he had gone missing, or died for that matter.
"You don't know, Do you?"
" Know what?"
"He's-"
She couldn't stop the choked sob, that escaped her lips.
Realisation hit Drace, like a truck. He knew what happened.
"No."
Drace, the guy who couldn't care less, about anything or anyone, was Hurt. Grief. Oh, that inconsolable grief. He may not have been that great a friend with Cassian, but he did respect him.
Athene composed herself, and built up her ice-cold facade, again.
"He's dead."
Athene said, without any emotions leaking through her facade.
"Oh god, I'm so sorry, Athene. I'm so sorry."
"Don't be. You had nothing to do with it. It is not your fault."
"I'm so sorry, you had to feel that hurt. I'm so sorry for that. I know how you must be feeling right now."
"How so?"
"I...uh...Lost someone, a couple years back."
"Oh God, Guess both our lives suck, don't they?"
"I guess, they do, after all."
Athene looked away, from his endless dark void of eyes.
"Well I better get to class, I'm sorry. Demetre."
Just as Athene's body spins around to leave, a rough hand with long fingers takes hold of her arm.
"Yes Deme-"
"Athene. Loved but lost. It comes close, you'll lose control, it attempts to take over. Pulling you underneath. You cannot help but be tempted to give in. you'll slip in the flames of dark. If there is Not much to save."
Athene is silenced. Drace. The popular guy, never interested in studying anything, just Said this to her. And she couldn't help, but feel a little relatable to what he Said.
Drace let her go, And turned back to his book, Not knowing why he just Said that.
Too stunned to ask him anything, Athene turns to catch a ride back home.
"Hi hon."
Athene's Dad, Brad La Rue, greeted her as soon as she opened the door.
"Oh, hi dad."
Athene rushed to her father, for a familiar hug, to feel the comfort and security, bloom within. He welcomed her with open arms.
"Aw, there there, my little champ."
No matter how cheerful of words escaped past his lips, She could feel he was sad.
"I still can't believe he's gone, dad."
"I know, darling. I know. He is in a better place, with clouds, with peace and ton of those annoying video games, of his."
They both laughed dryly.
Before her brother, her father was her confidante. He understood her like no one else did. She knew she had quite a lot of people who would want her to confide in them, but she did not want to hand over burdens of her problems to pass on to other's shoulders. She knew she had to carry it alone.
"I am so glad to have you, dad."
Athene looked up at Brad with shining eyes.
"Me too, kid."
He was never that good at expressing his affection, but he showed it with pieces of care, unknowingly.
"I'm starving, come on, lets have some lunch."
And Athene led her father to the kitchen, they cooked for what seemed like an eternity, saved some for Athene's Mother, Fern La Rue, and ate in silence.
Athene's mother, worked as a History Teacher, in one of the nearby schools, while her dad, worked with creative
arts. Athene's life? it was normal from the outside, but oh the hurricane that swirled inside.
