Chapter 6, The flower

Another day, another morning, another day of people feeling sorry for someone's loss. Its always the same old, same old. We live, no matter how good, in the end, we die, and nothing really matters.

"Oh hey Athene."

As soon as she entered the class room, she saw Drace, perched on a chair, gracefully.

"Hey Drace, how are you?"

"Oh, I am doing fine, what about you, any progress in sleeping well?"

"Yeah surprisingly, yes. I slept good that day, after I don't know how many days. Thanky-"

He silenced her with whipping up a finger to her bitten but softly parted, lips.

"Don't thank me. I don't like it when you thank me. You know, I am not going to lie to you, I usually don't like people, but you...you fascinate me, somehow."

Athene was dumbfounded by the sudden closeness of his. She could feel his breath lightly on her face, his slightly parted curvy lips, perfectly pink and looking moist, his nose, a funny shape but suiting his face in an imperfectly perfect way. But what always managed to catch her attention was his eyes, an infinite void of darkness, but a warm one. It was comforting, somehow. His eyes were just two pools of dark comforting silent warmth, that enticed Athene's soul. He had heavy eyes, with perfect eyelashes, that threw shadows on his eyes, and he almost looked godly. 'How is he so beautiful? how is he real?' thoughts ran in Athene's mind. She noticed his cheek dimpled, when he smiled, which he rarely ever genuinely did. Why was someone like him, fascinated with her? How? She had so many questions.

She felt the skin of his finger against her lips. His warmth, even for a second made her feel like everything would be okay, like maybe she will ever experience sunshine again. She knew, she would never admit it, but maybe she was fascinated by him too. Why did he care for her? Maybe he was just feeling sorry for her. That thought jerked her back to reality, and she quickly flinched back from his touch.

"Oh um...I am sorry for making things awkward and uncomfortable, I didn't mean to, excuse me."

"Oh um no, it is fine. I guess I am in the wrong class anyway."

"Ah okay, I have a free, do you want to maybe...hang out? And I am sorry for before..."

He looked at his shoes, cracking his knuckles, sheepishly.

"I...I don't think I should, I mean, no offence to you, but I...I don't know."

"It's fine. I get it, I am new to you, you don't really trust me...yet. Its alright, don't worry about it."

But unlucky for him, Athene was an expert on seeing past people's facades. She saw his disappointment, his self loathing, and feeling like he was not enough.

"Uh no actually, You have a warmth to you, and I know its selfish, but I am so tired of being cold any longer. We can hang out after class, it would be good, I guess."

His lips curled into a loop sided smile, exposing off one of his dimples. He looked at her, standing in front of a class window. Sun light streamed from behind her, and he thought to himself, she looked like a goddess, and as she smiled back at him, he released a breathe he didn't even realize, he was holding. She was unbelievably beautiful even when she thought she was a mess. As the sun hit her hair and her face, her hair turned this beautiful chocolate honey color, and her eyes grew bluer and deeper. Enticing him. Capturing him. Captivating him in a way he didn't fully understand.
