Love is friendship set on fire.
Flashback
They were inseparable back then, they had covered for each other throughout the debacle. Until they didn't, Alex had misread the actual meaning of the letter that could lead to their guy, and it had them arresting the wrong guy. Erin took no responsibility and cut Alex's rope, which fast-tracked her to the Unit chief position, and later on; Section chief. It had led to a horrible fight between the two women, and eventually the inevitable breakup.
present
Erin sighed as she loaded the last of her boxes in the truck, they were about to be shipped off to Georgetown. She had resigned from the FBI and accepted a position as a History teacher at Georgetown University. The tension became too high after coming back from the dead, David was married to Krystall and Alex had left. She gained a best friend in Penelope and an alliance in Derek. Aaron refused to talk to her, so did JJ. There was nothing there for Erin anymore. And so, the opportunity arose to teach. She had studied History in college before switching to Psychology. She had always wanted to teach, but the time was never right.
Finally, after a long week of packing and moving. Everything had arrived at her new apartment in Georgetown. She threw on a coat, deciding to walk around the campus of her new school for a bit. As she walked out, she got hit by a wall of a sharp cold. Erin shivered a little, pulling up her collar a bit. She put in her earplugs, the 4th symphony of Mahler playing in her ears. Softly she began humming along, closing her eyes. Suddenly she tripped, falling over a loose shoelace. "Oomph" She grunted as she prepared herself for the fall, but it never came. Instead, she fell into someone's arms, a soft wool coat pressed against her cheek. Smelling faintly like cigarettes and female perfume. The smell was quite familiar but she couldn't quite place it. "Next time open your eyes when you are walking him?" her savior teased, Erin immediately recognized the voice. "Alexandra..." She started but was quickly rendered speechless as she took in the younger woman's appearance. Brown locks now streaked with silver, Laughing lines forming and little frown lines now etched permanently into her face. Alex was still so breathtaking, Erin's mouth dropped a little. " watch out, You'll catch flies." Alex smirked, before gently grabbing Erin's chin to close her mouth. Subtly swiping a lip across the blonde her mouth. Erin sighed before hugging Alex tightly. "oh my, Allie I missed you so much. I am so sorry I couldn't tell you." her voice cracking as she broke down into sobs. Even though she wouldný admit it to anyone, Alex too was reduced to crying. "Don't apologize Rin, you didn't have a choice." Erin whimpered, "Let's go back to your place. we have a lot to talk about.
The moment they found themselves on Erin's couch, She fell asleep. Alex let her rest because it must have been hard to come back from the death and moving to a whole new place again right after. And not before long, she was lost in her thoughts. Remembering Erin's and Alan's wedding day as clear as the day
"I do."
The priest smiled at Erin, her confident and assured answer making Alan smile uncontrollably. Alex felt tears prick in his eyes as Alan raised Erin's hand, kissing it gently as the priest spoke to him.
"Do you, Alan Strauss, take Erin Catherine Durant to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold, and from this day forward, for better, for worse. For richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?" The priest repeated proudly, a small smile plastered on his wrinkled face.
"I do," Alan said, easy laughter erupting as he smiled at Erin, completely and utterly smitten. Alex swore that if Alan's smile was any wider then it would be too big for his face.
"I pronounce you husband and wife, You may kiss the bride!" The priest exclaimed, and Alan captured Erin's lips. The couple then kissed for much longer than what would be considered to be socially acceptable, making Alex think about the time when Erin gave her such kisses.
