MY SUMMER STARTED OFF WONDERFULLY.

In a matter of days since summer had started I had become glued to the hip with a girl called Aaliyah Preston, a girl had moved in next door to my family with her Mom and her puppy.

She was also one of the prettiest girls I had ever seen. She was glossy, self assured, and graceful. Everything any girl wished to be.

The best thing about her was that she was going to be transferring schools to Easlington after the summer and so our friendship could actually develop and become something meaningful.

I could actually have a friend beside me at school now.

"Are you sure we've only known each other for a week?" Aaliyah asked me dubiously, making it sound as though we hadn't only met each other a couple of days ago, "Cause it feels like we were always meant to be."

I knew Aaliyah Preston was a real one when she offered to braid my hair for me for free and I didn't even ask her to.

"Really?" I replied, eyes drawn to the screen of my phone, "You're right though. It definitely feels like we've known each other for longer."

"Hmm," I felt Aaliyah's head pull upwards to peer over my shoulders, her tone suspicious, "Why have you been so invested in your phone today? Are you waiting for your bestie to text you or something?"

Mario and Aaliyah had also met on the same day that I did but unlike me, Mario wasn't Aaliyah's biggest fan.

These two were a match for the ages because they were at each other's throats before they had even said 'hi' to each other.

Proclaimed frenemies as one would say.

"I am not waiting for anything from Mario," I clarified, clicking my phone off, "I am just chilling."

Technically, what I said to Aaliyah wasn't a complete lie since I wasn't really waiting on Mario.

I was waiting on Eliseo Matthiou instead.

He was supposed to be home a couple of days ago but had explained to me that he and Romeo had gone on a little trip which was why his journey home was delayed. Thankfully, I had heard that the trip was now over and he would be coming home soon enough.

"You seem pretty restless," Aliyah pointed out, gesturing to my anxiously bouncing leg, "I sense anticipation but for what?"

I stopped all movements.
