CHRISTMAS WAS MORE RELAXED THIS YEAR AROUND.
No extended family members came over to hassle us and we kept the celebration to ourselves. It kind of felt intimate and strange to sit together as a family and bond for the whole day without interruption but it was better than the chaos of having the whole family over for sure.
The 26th arrived and Aaliyah and I hauled ourselves over to Case's house for secret Santa.
We had decided a few weeks ago that we wanted to do secret Santa and we definitely had to force Case to participate.
Case wasn't a lover of Christmas in general or gift giving and it took a lot of convincing to get him involved but I knew that he had a weak spot for us and would always give in.
I never grew up being taught the importance of gift giving either and I had learnt the preciousness of gift giving from the family that lived opposite my house. Till this day, I still exchanged presents with the Matthiou brothers every year.
"Who wants to go first?" I asked as we sat in a circle, each person's gift in hands, "Should I?"
Aaliyah shrugged nonchalantly, looking as unbothered as ever. "Why not?"
My face lit up with a sweet smile as I pushed my wrapped box towards Aaliyah who smiled, realising that I was her secret santa. "Open it!" I encouraged her eagerly.
Getting something for Aaliyah was far from difficult. She was easy to read and easy to figure out because she always made her likes and dislikes clear to me. It was easy getting to know Aaliyah because she never really hid anything from me.
Aaliyah eagerly unwrapped my gift, pausing dramatically when the Victoria Secret inscription revealed itself.
"Do I dare open this-?" She glanced from Case then to me with a face that expressed unconcealed excitement, biting down on her bottom lip in anticipation, "Wow."
"Maybe you should." I suggested with a smirk, crossing my arms.
So yes, I had been a little daring and expensive with the gift I got for Aaliyah but it was all worth it.
I knew that lingerie was something she loved and adored so, why not get her that? She had been stacking up a collection of them since she was thirteen and putting aside the fact that she had a weird addiction for a teenager, Aaliyah wasn't really your average teenager anyway.
