IT WAS OFFICIALLY THE SEASON OF BLUE SKIES AND BUZZING BEES.

Summer.

I loved summer in my town. It was a time for community and a time for a growth. Everything good happened during the summers. Or so I liked to think.

"Whoa tinkerbell, what is all of this?"

This summer, I decided I was going to improve my baking enough to be able to bake and sell for the Conti Bakery. I was good but I wanted to be perfect and excellent like Mommy Conti. I was forever thankful to her for teaching me the art of dough and flour and it was something I had a genuine passion for. Baking made me happy. I would do it everyday if I could.

"These are victorian style sponge cake slices," I announced to Aaliyah with a wide grin, setting the two large trays in front of her, "They look good right?"

I took a lot of pride in my work. After I baked something, presentation was as important as how good it tasted and it was becoming my thing to put a lot of personality in my work. I totally was obsessed with anything that resembled flowers and butterflies and I stuck those edible stuff anywhere that I could on my baked goods. Everything I baked had to look pretty. That was the rule I was setting for myself.

"Good?" Aaliyah reiterated incredulously, reaching for a slice, "These look more than good, Addie! They look fire!"

I beamed so brightly that my face almost split open. "Why, thank you friend," I curtsied playfully, "I am very happy to hear because I put a lot of effort in this."

"M'kay," Aaliyah was already devouring the slice, eyeing me with a sort of entranced fascination, "It tastes delicious," She was speaking with her mouth full, "But I have one question though."

I tilted my head. "What?"

Aaliyah swallowed. "Why do you look so pretty today?"

Her question caught me so off guard that I burst out laughing. I didn't really take compliments well. Especially when they were dished out so randomly.

"Do I?" I snorted through my nose, ears firing up, "Well thanks, I guess."

"You do!" Aaliyah insisted, eyes examining me, "Look at you in your little cute green flowery sundress and hair beads! You're glowing!"

I patted my hands to my hot cheeks, unable to stop my embarrassment from flushing me. In contrast to what she was saying, I wasn't feeling different from any other day. Sure I slept well and had lots of energy but I wasn't feeling particularly glowy or prettier.

Was this the summer I turned pretty?

I internally tittered at my thoughts and pushed them aside.
