I'd just like to say before I start this rewrite I absolute love the legend of korra and avatar the last airbender equally but in different ways. By no means do I think both shows are perfect as nothing truly is, there are things in both that I don't agree with, or I think could have been handled better. I think Korra receives unnecessary amount of hate and I've recently been watching some reviews to see more in depth why people don't like her some are valid reasons while others are completely unreasonable. As such I'll be listing what I don't like in both shows to avoid confusion about by stance on both shows.

Firstly, in atla.

1. I did not like how ozai's character had little agency yes he was a bad abusive father but what else? Ik the context of the story didn't need more but I would have wanted more insight not to humanize him but just to expand like even Zhao has more agency than him.

2. I am a zutara shipper I think it made more thematic sense for the story and quite frankly for the characters themselves. Katara was always like a mother figure for Aang he never had that same level of maturity where she could ever lean on him Kataang shippers you can correct me if I'm wrong I don't hate the ship it just didn't feel as impactful. However, with Zuko Katara had an opportunity to be with someone who can be at the same level as her and their relationship fit into the theme of healing and unity after a scarred war that divided. This point ties in with korra as well I don't like how Katara's character ended up the show she was the only one who seemed to have not done something significant but stayed in her previous role as mother, trainer and healer while none of those qualities are bad nor are they out of character for her but she was a fighter always pushing for doing what's right helping people and I believe as fire lady she would have accomplished that goal far more than if she was just the avatar's wife.

3. The romance's in the show felt underdeveloped like maiko, sukka, even Kataang upon rewatches I notice that the last meaningful interaction Kataang has is when Katara says she's confused and runs away then in the season finale she kisses Aang. What happened between those two points I wanted to know. Next maiko, if you want me to believe she is Izumi's mother and Zuko wife you need to give me more to go off for their relationship not only was it shown in the show that mai did not understand Zuko but also how Zuko outgrew that part of his life. sukka is better developed than maiko Imo I loved that suki's influence changed sokka's views about sexism. But their relationship developed mostly offscreen as well. While I acknowledge war was the main plot and Aang learning the elements everything was secondary to that I still would have liked more development there.

4. I wish the characters like tylee, mai, suki and Yue were more developed. Some work was done with them in the comics, but I still wish more was done.

5. Toph's role in the final battle. I loved that heart wrenching scene of her and sokka, but I feel like her skill set wasn't used well enough this I admit is a minor nit-pick.

6. Aang getting the energy bending from the lion turtle. Not only did it feel like convenient plot armour to solve Aang's pacifist ideology but also it came out of absolute nowhere I wish they at least gave some more context and back story while he was explaining how he defeated ozai so the lion turtle thing could make more sense. Admittedly due to lok the lion turtle thing doesn't bother me as much cus of wan's journey.

7. The ending. This isn't a nag against Kataang but because of the themes of the show I believe a better fitting ending would have been the entire gang standing together in their nations clothes embracing as they faced the new peaceful world they fought for.

Now for what I don't like about korra.

1. I wish they developed the romances better as well. I think korrasami came out of nowhere. Lots of people get called homophobic for saying this and I'm not a homophobe. I rewatch those seasons specifically looking for korrasami while I admit I see some scene where they tried to hint at it considering the circumstances, but it just still felt like bff to me cus those are things I would do for my best friend and her likewise, so it was hard not see it as that. The comics did a better job of really cementing them as a couple. The romance between opal and Bolin, kainora, masami and makorra could have been handled better Imo.

2. I wish we got some more out of asami, mako and Bolin's back stories they both were tragic and just like in atla we saw Zuko and his mom I wish we got the same for them. Yes I am aware of the production issues with the show that probably resulted in this.

3. I wish the character's were more developed yes the show is a plot driven show, and it was limited episodes more could have been done for all the characters with the exception of korra.

4. I don't like how the airbender came back to be Imo I don't think it made sense because following the lore previously established in season two did not make sense to me.

5. I wished they showed more inequality of non benders in season one

6. I would have liked a red lotus and kuvira back story (I read her comic but still)

7. See more esna and deska and how their father impacted them for them to not be fazed much when he died would have been interesting.

8. The fire nation, Izumi and Iroh ii while I think they left the nation out because of atla I would have liked to see a little bit of them like how we got to see the south pole and the earth kingdom.

9. More of baby korra what it was like for her parents to raise a kid who can earth and fire bend

10. For the show not to shuffle between wanting to be like atla and not at the same time.

Anyways now that's out of the way let the rewrite begin!
