Chapter 3: President
Martin stayed in the school infirmary sleeping the whole morning class; he told the nurse that he wasn't exactly feeling good-- it was very obvious to the nurse considering the dark circle he has-- and asked if he could stay.
Luckily, the nurse was rather understanding, so she let Martin stay, and left him after giving him medicine.
In the afternoon, he and Anthony were called to the SSG office-- courtesy of the recent event, Martin supposed.
"I told you, she'd know about it."
"For the record, I'm not aware, so how am I supposed to stop it? We're practically at the top of a 6-story building when the fight happened; it's not our fault."
Anthony thinks about what Martin said and realizes he has nothing to be afraid of.
As Martin said, they were not aware of their responsibility, so how were they supposed to stop the fight before it escalated.
It's not that a fight really happened, it's just two girls arguing; that's barely a fight.
"Plus, I think you're just overthinking. Even when Taylor knew about it, so what?"
What can she do to them?
Martin couldn't have been more wrong.
He found out about that himself.
"Are you guys dumb? Like who in their right minds forget about their own responsibilities? Has the Summer holiday fried your brains or what? Have you been slacking lately? So, that's the reason why fights were rampant these days?"
"Furthermore, you don't even know Claire? How can you defend Nicole and let other students embarrassed Claire in front of everyone? Is that reasonable?"
Martin and Anthony was sitting across Taylor's seat as Taylor paces back and forth lecturing them.
That has been going on since they step foot inside the office and it's been 30 minutes.
Martin looks at Taylor listening to her rants like how he listens in class.
Meanwhile, Anthony has been repeating Taylors rants inside of his head from the get-go.
Like this...like that... just shut up and listen to us for a second, ma'am!
Who are you calling dumb? Who are you calling slackers?
This father, I, am not dumb nor a slacker!
On the surface, he was like Martin, but in truth, he's been a raging volcano since he saw Taylor for the first time today.
While Anthony focuses on Taylor's rants, what Martin was curious about is the girl, Claire, Taylor talks about nonstop.
Is that the girl Nicole bumped into earlier?
Why does it seem like Taylor favors that Claire over Nicole?
"Taylor, isn't Nicole your Vice President?"
In Madam Maddison High School, SSG President holds the authority second only to that of the teachers.
That's why most of the students feared her, not only because she's the SSG President but mainly because of her being the SSG President plus her personality; she's a perfectionist. If she ever caught you being late to class, you're on a nonstop rap playlist.
Don't even get her started with you being caught doing anything against the school rules, she can expel you in a heartbeat and no one can do anything about it, unless you are of a certain socio-economic background, you can't do anything to salvage the situation.
SSG Presidents were chosen by the school's stakeholders and the management, not through an election.
The President then chooses their SSG members with an exception of every Class level representatives; every Class level will need to elect their two representatives.
That's why even if they don't want to, Martin and Anthony were still elected. They can't relinquish their position, they can only wait until the President kicks them out of office.
Last year, Taylor's officers have been decided and announced officially.
So, what happened to Nicole?
"Not important! I just saw another candidate that fits the role better."
Taylor rolls her eyes as if it was nothing and finally sits down on her seat.
She just ruins other people's reputations by kicking them out of office but she's here acting like she's aggrieved.-- Martin thought.
"Then, I can assume that Claire is your new Vice President?"
"She is. I found out she's a transfer student from last year, I didn't even know. We've met during Summer holiday vacation and we clicked."
Girl, you can't just replace someone who has been a great help for you over someone you just met during Summer vacation!-- Anthony rages in his mind.
Like, aside from Taylor, who does that?
Who's that Claire they're talking about anyway?
He's practically just a shadow inside the office.
"How is she fits in the role? Because you clicked?"
Anthony sarcastically asks, which Taylor-- according to Martin's observation-- found offensive with the way she glares at Anthony.
Martin looks at Anthony and gives him an eye signal.
"Is she one in the school scholarship program? I recently found out that you may have eyes for scholars?"
Recently, as in just this morning while he was in the school infirmary.
Turns out, the school nurse who he met earlier, is staying at the dormitory near the school where most of the scholars stay at. He heard the nurse talking to the other nurses like a proud mom telling them that all of the SSG members were her neighbors.
What a coincidence, right?
You can't tell how gossips are important unless you got into a situation where gossips saved you.
"Scholars are responsible. I don't want to have brats around me all the time, especially when I need them the most. So, I got myself the scholars!"
Taylor cracks up--almost sounds like the devil's laughter-- and Martin can only imagine how proud she was of herself.
She doesn't want brats, but isn't she one herself though?
She's so weird.
