Clarissa stared at the roof above her head, her mind in a daze as she tried to shut out the noise from the school around her.
She had helped Liam and Mason clean up the McCall house up until the point where she heard Scott arrive home in defeat from his trip to the nursing home. She hadn't wanted to start an argument by telling him that she had been right and instead chose to leave. Somehow she felt that it would be disrespectful to Stiles if she picked a fight with the boy for something involving his family.
"It's a relic." Clarissa looked down from the ceiling as Lydia spoke, her eyes glancing down at the library keycard in her hand. Something about the keycard triggered a feeling of remembrance inside of her and she couldn't help but feel like it had something to do with that argument she recalled having with Scott once upon a time.
She had been having moments where something would trigger a familiar feeling inside of her and it chipped away from her each time that it happened. Something about that feeling brought about an eerie sense of dread and longing in her heart. It was as if she was reaching out for someone and just as she touched them, they evaporated in a cloud of smoke.
"What's a relic?" Malia questioned softly, her eyes moving towards the oldest Bane sibling in slight concern as she noticed the girl's eyes move to stare up at the ceiling again. She had been off since she had gotten to school that morning and had barely left the sides of her younger siblings.
"An object with a fixed association to the past." Lydia explained to the other three teenagers quietly, her eyes lingering on them all as she spoke. "Jake's ID was left behind after he was taken, and Gwen found her sister's bracelet on her bedroom floor."
"The baseball bat in my car." Clarissa mumbled underneath her breath, her eyes coming down from the ceiling to rest on the student identification card that was staring back at her face. "Delcan found one in his room and so did Evie. Since none of us play baseball or even recall buying a bat, we think that someone else could have given them to us."
"How can someone be erased, and still leave something behind?" Malia eyed the girl next to her in confusion, her thoughts locked on the baseball bats that mysteriously popped up out of nowhere. "Why would someone leave behind more relics than other people?"
"We've been over this before with the Doctor Who analogy." Clarissa ignored the raised eyebrows that came towards her from Scott McCall and the snort of disbelief from Lydia Martin in favor of staring at the werecoyote in exasperation. "Amy's ring from when Rory was taken. It's like none of you guys listen to me I swear. Maybe this Stiles person spent a lot of time with us at Evie's house and played baseball? I don't know but I know that the baseball bat has significance."
"Ignoring the fictional example, it's a conservation of mass." Lydia mumbled underneath her breath softly before turning to the others. "The total mass of any isolated system remains constant."
Clarissa tuned out of the conversation for a moment as she noticed Nolan talking to her brothers softly a little down the hallway from them. She could see his eyes shift to her briefly before talking in a hurried manner.
"I understand that you guys can't tell me anything and the last thing I want is for Clary to be locked up somewhere and experimented on." Clarissa heard Nolan whisper softly as she turned her ear towards the conversation and focused on it. "But I'm worried about her. People are starting to notice things about her and talk. The library drew a lot of eyes her way and I don't know what's going on but you two need to let her know that people are watching her closely."
"What people?" Delcan questioned softly and Clarissa cursed internally when she heard her brother speak. She had wanted him to have plausible deniability when things hit the fan and by his agreement, he would be potentially targeted. "I'm assuming that Gabe is one of those people."
