BUZZZZ

The heavy metal door opened and out walked the one and only, Dallas Winston.

Dally was sent to the front desk to collect his things before leaving the jailhouse.

"Where's my shit?" He asked rudely, wanting to get out of there quickly.

The lady at the desk handed him his things, not being fazed by his rudeness, as he was a regular at this point.

He started heading towards the door without another word.

"Hey! You need to sign out!" The lady called.

Dallas waved his hand over his shoulder in a dismissive way, not caring.

As he walked out of the jailhouse with no regrets he thought about how much he could use a cigarette right about now. It was the summer of nineteen sixty-seven, and it was the third time Dallas got jailed that summer.

He walked down the busy streets of New York and down to the corner store.

He walked into the store and to the counter where the cigarettes were.

"Two packs of cigarettes," Dally said to the clerk.

"That will be fifty cents." The clerk said.

"Hey, I think your clock is wrong," Dally said, distracting the man, turning his head to look at the imaginary clock.

The clerk looked in the same direction, confused. "What are you talking about? We don't have a clock in the store." By the time the man turned back to face Dally, he was already out the door.

"Hey, mister! Get back here! You need ta pay for that!" The clerk shouted after him but it was no use, Dally was already long gone.

As he was walking down the street, he eagerly opened one of his cigarette packs, lighting it up and putting it in between his lips, taking in a big puff.

Dally turned around and started walking backwards, trying to figure out where to go next.

Another girl was walking down the street with her best friend. Their college classes just finished and they had stacks of paper and two hot coffee cups in their hands. They were too deep in conversation that they weren't looking where they were going.

Dally decided walking backwards wasn't a good idea when he collided with the two girls.

Their papers flew everywhere and their coffee spilled, ruining both their clothes and their papers.

"Shit." Dally cursed.

"Hey, watch it will ya?" The girl with long black hair and bright blue eyes said. She was wearing dark wash jeans, a grey and white striped t-shirt with a salmon-pink cardigan on top.

"You ruined our papers!" The other girl complained.

"Sorry," Dallas mumbled. He wasn't sorry. He couldn't give two shits.

"Yeah, you should be." The girl with dark black hair and bright blue eyes said.

As Dally turned around and started to walk away, he felt hot liquid being poured down his back.

"What the hell was that for?" He yelled, turning around. "Don't you know who I am? I run these streets!" He yelled after.

"For someone who runs the streets, I sure never seen you around here."

Dally's face dropped. How had he never seen this girl before?

"Well, you must be new here hon, because everyone knows who I am." Dally retorted.
