~one week later~
Dally and Cynthia haven't come across each other in nearly a week. Cynthia couldn't care less, but Dallas wanted her. Dally missed and needed her, his heart ached for her.
It was Cynthia's lunch break, so she and her science partner, Walter, went to Dairy Queen to get a bite to eat.
Walter is six-foot-four, tall and lanky. He had light brown - almost blond- hair and blue eyes. He had big black glasses that took up the top half of his face. He wore beige cargo pants and a light blue button-down shirt.
Cynthia had he hair in a low, messy bun with a few pieces out around her face. She wore baggy jeans with rips and a loose band t-shirt. She had bags under her eyes from all the work she'd been doing in the past week.
Cynthia and Walter walk into Dairy Queen and walk up to the ordering counter.
"Hi, can I get a barbecue sandwich with a Pepsi?" Cynthia asked.
"Alright. And for you, sir?" She directed her question to Walter.
"I- uh, I'll have the same," Walter said.
"Perfect, your total will be fifty-three cents." (about $4.28 in 2021)
Walter handed the hostess a one-dollar bill and she gave him four dimes, one nickle and two pennies in return.
After waiting for five minutes, their food was ready. They took their tray of food and headed over to a booth by the window.
"So, Walter, what do you want to do for the science project?" Cynthia asked, taking a bite of her sandwich.
"How about we build a model of a rocket?" Walter asked.
"Alright, I like that idea," Cynthia said, jotting it down in her notebook.
"We can get some scrap metal in the junkyard," Walter suggested.
"That's a great idea!" Cynthia explained.
They continued to throw ideas back and forth about their project.
While they were deep in conversation, the one and only, Dallas Winston walked in.
Intending to find a quick bite to eat, he had come here, but he soon regretted it.
Dally looked over at one of the tables spotting Cynthia and Walter. Dally couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy.
Wanting to stir up some bullshit, Dally waltzed over to their table.
"What do you think you're doing here?" Dally asked Walter.
"I- um, we're just working on a project. For science." Walter answered, intimidated by Dally's presence.
Cynthia thought Walter was gonna piss himself.
Cynthia only sat there, not fazed by Dallas.
"Dallas," Cynthia said calmly. "What are you doing here?" Cynthia was trying not to yell.
"It's Dally to you. And I'm here to get food." Dallas said.
"Then go get food. Why did you come to our table, Dallas?" Cynthia asked.
Dally looked pissed. "I just wanted to see what you and your boyfriend were doing here."
"He's not my boyfriend. He's my science partner." Cynthia explained. "Walter, this is, Dallas. Dallas, this is, Walter. Now, Dallas, leave us alone."
Walter still looked scared shitless, it was pretty funny.
"I-I-I'm gonna go," Walter said and got out of his seat.
"Wait, Walter! Come back!" But it was no use, he was already out the door.
Dallas sat in Walter's seat and took a bite of his sandwich. "Hey, princess, how you been?" Dally asked.
"I was fine until you showed up," Cynthia said, rolling her eyes.
Dally scoffed, "Ugh, you hurt my heart." He sarcastically said and fell off the seat of the booth.
"Dallas, get up. You're acting like a three-year-old." Cynthia complained.
Dally got up and sat back down, taking another bite of Walter's half-eaten sandwich.
"You scared away my partner, now what am I gonna do?"
"You can come and have fun with me." He said.
"No Dallas, I'm going to the mall with Rachel since my next class isn't until four hours from now."
"No, you're not," Dallas said.
"Yes, I am."
"No, you're not, princess."
"Stop calling me that," Cynthia said.
"But you call me 'Dallas' even though I tell you not to." He reasoned.
"Go fuck yourself," Cynthia said, standing up and gathering her things heading towards the door. Dallas was quick to go and follow her.
"Come on, the carnival is in town, it'll be fun," Dally promised.
"You want to take me to the carnival?" Cynthia asked.
"Well, yeah. Where else would we go? The fucken museum?" By now they were outside on the sidewalk walking towards the carnival grounds.
Cynthia let out a chuckle, "Fine, lead the way."
As they walked down the sidewalk, Cynthia turned to him, "What happened to you anyway?" She asked, addressing his black eye, busted lip, and bruised cheek.
With a shrug of his shoulders, Dally spoke, "Ehh, got into a fight." He made it sound like it was nothing.
"How?" Cynthia asked.
"I slashed a few people's tires."
"Oh, okay then," Cynthia said, making a mental note to never slash someone's tires.
They continued to talk about random stuff as the carnival came into view.
There were a few small roller coasters, bumper cars, ring toss, basketball, and best of all, the giant Ferris wheel.
"You ready, princess?" Dally asked, grabbing a hold of her hand.
"I'm ready, Dallas."
