CHAPTER 35

"You could've died." Jisoo's voice was broken.

Jennie tried to speak but the words were stuck at the back of her throat. I'm sorry, she wanted to say.

"You scared me."

Jennie considered her best friend, crouched down, sitting at the foot of her bed and bent over, resting her elbows on her knees. She could see a small pool of wetness on the carpet below Jisoo. Another tear fell when Jennie reached for Jisoo's hand.

Rosé lay asleep beside her, an arm around her torso and her face still puffy from crying most of the night. The door of her room was left ajar, a dim light in the hallway and next to the room were the boys. They had spent the entire night doing rotations after their medic left (who made a makeshift bed at the next room), manager Sejin felt asleep in exhaustion in the living room on one of the bean bags.

"Whe—" Jennie coughed out, her throat burned like someone shoved a sandpaper in it. Her eyes searched her room and felt her pulse skyrocketed at the memory of her in the water.

Quick on her feet, "Calm down," Jisoo said, the worry in her voice seemed too much as she looked away, throat closing up at the sight of pale Jennie on the bed, and got up to grab some water.

Jennie gratefully accepted the water and drank to quench her thirst, coughing and heaving to regulate her breathing.

"Unnie..." Jennie whispered hoarsely, mind racing as her eyes searched for him, "w-where is he? Is he okay? What happened—?"

"Slow down, you're going to drown yourself," Jisoo tutted, breathing through her lips, "Don't get up. He's okay. He's resting in his room. Lay back down and rest too."

Jennie's eyes welled up. "That idiot," she whispered in exasperation and relief. She sniffed while she pressed the back of her palms against her eyes, the familiar wetness made her chin tremble.

"You're both idiots," Jisoo shook her head and averted her eyes, "Jendeuk, get some rest, okay? I'm going to grab more pillows and then, I'll sleep." She stood up and rushed in haste, escaping Jennie's watchful eyes.

"Unnie," Jennie called out.

"Hm?" Jisoo paused, her back straight, waiting.

"I'm sorry for scaring you. It won't happen again," Jennie said, giving her unnie a watery smile even when Jisoo refuses to look at her.
