CHAPTER 55

"You're only twenty-five, Jennie-ah. You have your whole life ahead of you. You didn't have to leave this industry."

"I'm not leaving."

"Yet."

Jennie didn't meet her manager's eyes then, turning her gaze to the grand photo of Blackpink that hangs above the mantle. When she finally responded, she looked so lost that it physically pained Manager Lee, her throat aching with unreleased emotion. "I don't know."

Dinner was about to begin.

"You are. I know you're not coming back no matter what you tell them. I know you, Jennie-ah."

"Doing this for myself, and for everyone I love." Jennie lifted her pointer finger up to her lips to motion quietly that the other girls didn't need to hear what their conversation was all about. With the girls' laughter from their living room echoing all the way inside the kitchen, her emotions couldn't help but get the best of her.

"But at what cost? Your life's work? You've worked so hard just to throw it all away now," Manager Lee shook her head and a short, brittle laugh escaped her lungs as she looked down. "I'm sorry I failed you. I'm so sorry, my dear."

Jennie grabbed the salmon from the oven in her oversized mittens and gave her manager a quiet shake of her head. "ManLee, it isn't your fault. You did the best you could do and that's enough for me to know you will always be in support of me."

Manager Lee held a towel and grabbed the other end of the tray Jennie was holding. "I will always be. You take good care of yourself there, okay?"

"Of course."

"I'd leave it to you now, I'm heading home."

"See you on Sunday, Manager Lee!"

"Don't start sounding so happy leaving now," Manager Lee frowned before laughing. "Pick you up at your house at 4 in the morning, okay?"

Jennie almost laughed when she heard the tiny grumble from her manager. She waved as she watched her manager take her leave.

After placing the food down on the table, the girls merrily started digging in. Rosé had been home for the past weeks, hence, she has less dark circles now. Jisoo looked refreshed after being given three days off. Lisa had recently purchased her first ever home in South Korea, where her mother and father are currently staying for a visit.

"You said that?" Lisa blustered, her eyes as wide as golf balls, as she took a huge bite of her quinoa.

"Yeah, he's not going to break up with me just because of that," Jisoo spoke with annoyance. "No one breaks up with me. I break up with them."
