As usual, I ate alone. I haven’t seen Ellery at all today. There’s still been no sign of Josh or Junior. Fear has been taking over ever since they disappeared. I picked at my food. Still everyone looked at me like I was a complete freak. What made me so different from them? I was human, right? I saw Ellery walk past me.
I got up and grabbed her by the arm. “Hey!” She screamed like she was helpless.
“Cut the bullcrap.” I spat. “What the hell is going on here?”
“I – I don’t get what you’re asking.” She whimpered.
I twisted her arm backwards. “Tell me what is going on!” I screamed loud.
The next thing I remember was two pairs of hands being wrapped around my arms. It made me sick. I could see the smirk on Ellery’s face grow wider the farther away I got from her.
“Let go of me!” I kicked and punched, but the guys were not fazed.
The men threw me into my room and locked the door. I fell onto the floor and got up on my knees and punched the door with the side of my hands. It was no use. I got up on my bed and curled into the fetal position. Slowly, I began to fall asleep.
The door to my room opened and awoke me from my sleep. I groaned and saw two pairs of shadows. They walked towards me. I got up from the bed as they wrapped their hands around my upper arm.
“Take her to her new home.” Ellery said with her hands on her hips.
My arms were bent behind my back and I could feel zip tie handcuffs tighten around my wrists. “Whoa, whoa!” I screamed. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” I screamed loudly.
The men pulled me by Ellery and she punched me hard in the stomach. I doubled over in pain. My body was shot upwards and another agonizing blow was brought to my stomach. I fell to my knees. My face was facing away from Ellery. She grabbed my face in her hand and made me look at her. “We’ve got many more surprises for you, babe.” She smiled and released my face.
I was pulled off my knees as we began walking down a darkened hallway. I kept wincing in pain as I was jerked around by the guards. You should never trust anyone. And this is what I got myself into.
The room was dark. Only a bright tube light hung above the door. I was getting tired from being dragged. The men threw me onto the floor and I rolled a couple of times. They left and I clutched my stomach in pain.
A wall wasn’t far behind me. I dragged myself up to it and rested against it. The only thing I can hear is my heavy breathing. Tears formed in my eyes and I wiped them away. How has this happened just in two years? Everybody has turned into monsters. There are only a few sane people left.
I could feel a heavy weight set in my chest. Tears have overcome me and began falling down my face. No. What’ll Josh think? He wouldn’t want to see you like this. I thought to myself. A sudden memory came into my head.
I let out a sigh as I rested my head against his shoulder. “What if we never see each other again?” I whispered, staring at the bright orange setting sun.
“What do you mean?” Josh looked at me.
I lifted my head up. “Like, what if something happens between the Colonies? We would never be able to see each other again.”
