The sound of the door slightly creaking open awoke me from my sleep. I looked over at saw two people walking towards me. I instantly stood up and backed up against a wall.
"Cass, calm down." A voice whispered. "It's me." I recognized that voice.
"J – Josh?" I whispered.
He nodded and I pulled him into a deep hug. Tears fell down my face as Josh ran a hand through my hair.
"Come on." Josh pulled away. "We gotta go." I nod and gathered everything I needed.
Josh grabbed my hand and we ran out of the room. There was a girl waiting for us. We ran down the hall and out to the open. The cool night air felt so good. The girl closed the lid silently. Josh checked me up and down.
"You look like hell." He whispered.
I chuckled and he pulled me into a hug."It feels so good to have you back." I whispered.
He nodded. "Do you know if Colony 14 is still here?"
"It should be. Why?"
"We need a place to hide out for the night."
I took Josh and led him and the girl back to Colony 14. It was dead, but the buildings and homes still stood. My house was still intact. I walked in and old memories flooded in. I haven't been here for so long. Everything was still intact. We sat down on the couch.
"Cass, I forgot to tell you," Josh looked at the girl. "This is Lily. She saved me."
"It's nice to meet you." Lily smiled.
"Nice to meet you, too." I stood up and looked back to Josh and then Lily. "Someone can take one of the couches and then I could stay in my old room." I walked over to my room and Josh ran up behind me.
"I could stay with you if you want." Josh took my hand.
I nod. "Sure."
Josh followed me into my room. I removed my tattered combat boots and sat down on the bed. Josh sat down next to me. There was silence between us. Josh placed his hand over mine.
"I thought you'd forgotten about me."
"How could I forget about you? You're the one who still cares about me."
I noticed Josh leaning in. His lips met mine softly. It felt comforting. I cupped his face in my hands deepened the kiss. I missed this so bad. And this is all I need.
Later the next day, we began getting ready. I tried the shower and it still works. I began taking a shower. The water on my dirty, bloody skin felt so good.
I got out and checked myself in the mirror. My face was still covered in scratches and big gashes but I was healing fast. I walked out to the main room. "The shower still runs. If you want, you could clean yourself up." I announced.
I told Josh that I was going to head outside while everyone else gets ready. A clattering noise came from a nearby building. There was a scream that came by a split second later. I headed into the building. I brought my shotgun over my shoulder. "No, no! Please!" Another scream burned in the air.
Following the screams, I noticed blood on the floor. "What the fuck?" I whispered and kept walking.
"Get the hell off of me!" Someone screamed as I got closer.
