I felt a gut wrenching fear take over me as I closed in on the base. Opening up the door I headed in. A small flashlight rests on my belt loop. The only light sources were the lights attached to ceiling. My boots were clicking across the newly cleaned tiled floors. My breath hitched in my throat once I heard a voice coming down the hall. I knew Josh was going to kill me for coming here. He heard clearly that I didn't want to save him.
The voice stopped at the end of the hallway I was at. I clutched my shotgun close to my chest. "Hey!" Someone yelled. "It's time. We gotta go!"
I let out a relieved sigh and watched the man leave. Once I thought the coast was clear I moved out of my hiding spot. I ran into some instantly. "Well, well, look who came back home." I recognized that voice.
"Your eyes are fucking everywhere." I said.
Ellery shrugged. "The guards may not know you're here, but I'll always know." There was a pause. "Are you going to stay awhile? I have something important to show you."
"Why? Do you just want to torture my ass again for shits and giggles?"
Ellery backed off. A smirk formed on her face. "No. But do you know your precious boy toy?" I came to realize who she was talking about. "His ass is next. And you are going to watch while he bleeds out and begs for you to help him. They are about to start right now."
Ellery snapped her fingers and two guards showed up behind me ready to take me away.
They dragged me into a room where two people were sitting at a table. They both were sitting on across from each other. I was held up by guards. That moment I realized that one of the guys was Josh. The man across from him smirked and whispered something to him. Josh looked over and didn't show any emotion. "What the hell did you do to him?" I demanded.
The guards pulled me back. Boots clicked across the floor. Someone stood in the shadows and placed a gun in the center of the table.
"Now," the shadowed figure started, "here is a game of chance. I will stick one bullet into the chamber and spin it. No one will know where it is. You hold the gun to your head and pull the trigger. Questions?"
The man and Josh shook their heads.
"Good. Now begin." As he said that, he spun the gun.
The gun landed on the nameless man. He picked it up and pulls the trigger. Click. The gun shot across the table. Click. I couldn't bear to watch. Towards the end the guards made me watch. I noticed the nameless man picking up the gun. Tears began to fall.
"What?" I whispered. "No! No that's cheating!"
With one instant blow, the gun went off. Josh's chair flew backwards. I began screaming. The nameless man got up and left; a smirk on his face. The guards let me go. I ran to Josh. "Please," I whispered as I sobbed. "Wake up. Josh, you can't leave me like this." Blood began to seep through his shirt. "Josh!" I fell to the side and grabbed his hand.
I began whispering his name silently. Resting my head on his stomach, I wish I could die with him. It felt like forever until I started to feel breathing. Sitting up I heard him gasp in a big breath of air. He started coughing and I clutched on to his hand tighter. I helped him sit up.
He stopped coughing and looked over to me. "Cass?"
I nod. "I thought you were dead."
Josh pulled me into a hug. "I could never leave you." He wiped away my tears.
"I'm so glad you're back." I whispered. Josh leaned over and kissed my lips. He hissed in pain from the bullet now lodged in his side. Blood still dripped from his wound.
