Chapter 8 - [August 28th]

"Where the hell are we?"

Crossing my arms, I stared up at the enormous brick building with large black windows. People walked in and out of the automated sliding glass doors but from my position in the parking lot I couldn't catch a glimpse inside.

I turned toward Rick, narrowing my eyes at him. "If you brought me to another counseling session I'm leaving."

"Read the sign."

I looked up at the building again, squinting to read the sign that was erected on top of the tall structure. Bounce Fitness... I didn't know whether to be intrigued or offended. Sure, I had a couple of extra pounds around the middle but I thought I hid it well.

Rick shook his head at me as he started walking towards the entrance. I followed behind him into the air-conditioned space. As soon as we entered a young women gasped and ran over to Rick. She threw her arms around his neck, pulling him into a tight embrace.

I took a small step back to let them have their moment. The woman looked to be in her early to mid-twenties. She was very petite with long blonde hair that swung freely down her back as she held onto Rick.

"Oh my gosh! How are you?" The lady asked with her hands still holding his shoulders. Rick responded with a stiff light tap on the back before moving her hands off of him. "How's the baby girl?"

"Rocky's good."

"It's been months since I've seen her. You have to bring her back here sometime."

If Rick brought my baby around his hoes...

"Elle," Rick called, gesturing for me to come closer to them. The woman's smile didn't dim a bit as I stood next to them. "Elle this is-"

"Hi! I'm Laurie," she excitedly stuck her hand out. I shook her hand, glancing up to Rick cautiously. "It's nice to finally meet you. I've heard so much about you and they were right you're like really pretty. Your skin is so even and," she ran the pad of her pointer finger up my forearm. "Smooth. Is that airbrush or natural?"

I took a discreet step back. She was talking a mile a minute and the wide-eyed ecstatic expression was creeping me out.

"Laurie shut up and stop being so weird," Rick said before turning to me. "This is my cousin. I think you two met years ago at my parent's house."

Once he said cousin, I noticed the very faint resemblance. Laurie didn't have the signature green eyes. Hers were a deep chocolaty brown that twinkled under the florescent lights. I recognized her energy; it was so similar to Elaine that I almost expected her to call me Sissy.

"I remember seeing her but we never like officially met," Laurie clarified. "But, Elaine talks about you so much like you're her actual sister. So, I like consider you my actual cousin. Hope that's not strange. I love your daughter by the way. She's so cute and sassy."

"Thanks?"

Rick sighed, running his hand through his hair. I bit my lip to stop from laughing at his annoyed face.

"Um..." I interrupted Laurie's word vomit, looking around at the place. "What did you have planned?" We stood in a lobby area, in front of the main desk that was filled with brochures and fitness magazines.

"You're not dressed right for what I had planned." Rick examined my outfit. "I told you to dress comfortably."

"I am comfortable. How was I supposed to know we were going to a gym?" I felt very comfortable to in my jeans and t-shirt.
