Alison
***I had never been as invested in someone's birthday like I was in Chris'. Since he only gave me one week to prepare, I was feeling the pressure to come up with a surprise apart from the cake he had asked me.
Throughout the week I went back and forth on what I should get him. Nothing seemed special or meaningful enough. He told me he didn't want anything, only to spend his day with me. That couldn't be true, surely there was something he wanted...
Maybe what he really wanted was the best sex of his life. What other reason did he choose to take us to a cold environment where we'd want to stay the whole day in bed?
The wheels in my head started churning. Maybe I could give him a taste of his own medicine, make him feel what he made me feel. The last time I tried it I failed, but I was confident I could redeem myself this time.
As I packed a bag for the three-day trip, I was flooded with ideas. I knew where I needed to get all the supplies I needed. The shopping list added to a hefty sum, but Chris deserved it. After all, he had paid for the whole stay at the cabin, this was the least I could do.
When Friday the 11th finally arrived, I couldn't contain my excitement. Since Chris worked until four, we'd only leave at around a quarter past five since he still had to go home and change.
Luckily for me, Sam and Claudia weren't home to ask me why I was baking a cake in the middle of the afternoon. It took me two hours to bring my vision to reality. I made a small dark chocolate cake, perfect for two people, and added frosting and raspberries on top and all around. I sprinkled icing sugar on the top to create a snow effect. Carefully, I transferred it to a cake carrier, hiding inside it a candle.
When Chris texted me that he had arrived, I dashed outside, carrying my bag over my shoulders and the cake in my hands. I threw my bag in the backseat and took my seat next to Chris, holding the cake in my lap so it would be protected during the bumpy ride.
Before speeding off, Chris placed his hands on my cheeks and kissed me, his lips stretching into a smile as we kissed. He was so excited and happy it made my stomach twist.
"Got everything?" He asked, placing his hand on my thigh.
"Yup!" I said, lifting the cake carrier to my face. "I have the most important thing of the night."
He smirked, pushing the lever into first gear. I smiled to myself. Little did he know the cake wasn't the most important thing of the night but what I had hidden inside my bag.
It took us four hours to get to our destination so we stopped along the way to get dinner. I assisted Chris in the GPS since neither of us had ever been to that location and since night had already fallen we couldn't rely on landmarks to guide us.
Chris told me a little more about where we were staying as we got closer. The cabin we'd stay in was owned and run by a couple who had quite an impressive estate and wanted to monetize the land they didn't use by building a few cabins and renting them. When we were about ten minutes away, Chris called the owners to let them know we were arriving.
"Ugh, I feel terrible bothering them... It's so late already, they're probably having dinner."
"Don't worry, I let them know beforehand we'd arrive late."
