The constitution is based on important principles that help to ensure government by popular sovereignty. The Constitution set those limits so that citizen know what their government is allowed to do and what it is not allowed to do The Articles of Confederation were not working. The Philippine Constitution is important because it protects our rights. It enables us to have justice and live a beautiful life. It helps us to know our limitations and the right things we should do in order for us to become a good citizen. We will know how to protect ourselves from enemies. The Constitution enables students to remember and embrace their basic rights as a people, and the basic principles by which our society has been organized. Minimizing the teaching of Filipino, Panitikan and Constitution thus robs young learners of their soul as citizens and future leaders.
constitution is the set of rules and maxims that determines the supreme power of the state (Maguigad, 2005). In addition, constitution also sets the limitation of the government’s power and protects the rights of the people of the state. Constitution is a very important instrument in a state. It is the regulations acknowledged by the people of a state to preserve and maintain peace and order in the society. Without this, the state will be in chaos. The sovereign power of the state will deteriorate and the government will not be able to function well. Philippines had several constitutions but the most “well-knowns” started from the Biak-na-Bato Republic. The transition of the constitutions are the result of socio-historical background of the Philippines dated back from the Pre-Hispanic period.
A constitution provides the basis for governance in a country, which is essential to making sure that everyone's interests and needs are addressed. It determines how laws are made, and details the process by which the government rules. Imagine a world without corruption. its has the basic rule on which the democracy functions. it guides in funtioning of a democracy. rights it defines the right of a citizen over state and other persons and citizenship it determines the various provisions for gaining and losing citizenship of the country. As a Filipino we should have good knowledge (if not all) of the Constitution. Because simply it is the basis or somewhat framework of how our country should be run (type of governance, laws that will govern our nation, territorial rights, etc.). We should have at least basic knowledge so we know when people abuse us as a nation whether from the inside or out or if we ourselves are stepping on other’s as well. The constitution should at least embody the necessary stuff that would dictate how we should move as a nation. It is important for students to learn the basic rules that govern their society, from local government on up to the national government and how government is supposed to operate at every level, including those in between. It is important for students to understand their duties and obligations at each level and what those expectations are. It is also important what rights they do have, and what, if any, limitations are placed on those rights. If they are not taught these things, then the system breaks down because new citizens (the young and new immigrants) don’t know the rules of this new society they are living in and what is expected of them and what they can expect the government at each level to do for, and can do to, each one of them … as well as their obligations to their fellow citizens living under the constitution(s).Its importance ranks up there with reading. writing and math skills, along with a basic understanding of history and geography and science.
