Esme went to watch that afternoon's tourney practice so she could see the boys' tryouts as Finn split off to carry out her first attempt at a plan to get the wand. The daughter of the Queen of Hearts was surprised to find Bea there, in a sports bra and athletic leggings by the field's sidelines. Audrey and a few other girls were nearby, dressed in similar athleisure wear. Esme almost felt a little out of place, the only one still wearing the white polo, dark blue sweater vest with the embroidered patch, and blue and yellow plaid skirt of one of the variations of the Auradon Prep uniform.

Bea looked up from her duffle bag and caught Esme's eye. She waved her over, immediately asking, "What are you doing here?"

Esme slung an arm around the future queen's waist and giggled happily. "FG is forcing Hugo and Eros to try out for the tourney team today." Bea raised her eyebrows. "I know. They're not the school spirit types-"

"No, not that," Bea said, looking towards the field. "This is not going to end well."

As if confirming her theory, the girls watched as Chad emerged from the locker rooms, his gaze landing on a blue head of hair and the target of his unbridled rage. Eros returned the boy's gaze. He wasn't planning on giving this game his full effort until he saw the mop of curly hair draped across the rich kid's smug face. The corner of his mouth quirked up. His plans changed.

Benny began the game with the tourney ball, tossing it to another player as he blocked the defender in front of him.

From the sideline, Audrey collected her blue and yellow pom-poms, cheering loudly for her boyfriend. "Are we gonna start practice or what?" Bea asked the captain impatiently.

"Let's hold off," she grinned. "I wanna see this."

Esme and Bea shared a look as the game continued in front of them.

Eros made two blocks, one to the defender in front of him, and a second aggressive hit to the shoulder of a familiar curly haired boy. Eros couldn't help himself to laughing down at Chad. He whooped combatively as he advanced down the field, tackling another offensive player to gain possession of the tourney ball as he made his way into the kill zone. Eros jumped and dodged the pelting dragon fire effortlessly as he followed the rolling tourney ball down the field. He hit the ball up into the air with the end of his tourney stick before tackling yet another player. He advanced on Hugo, despite his friend's horrified opposition. Benny was about to snatch the ball and advance towards the goal when Eros blocked him too, balancing the tourney ball on his stick before slapping it into the goal, chasing away the goalie before truly accepting his victory. Eros slammed down his stick, gloves and helmet before dancing happily in front of the goal net.

Back on the sidelines, the majority of the cheerleaders were jeering loudly as Audrey looked around in disbelief. When she turned to the future queen, however, she saw the girl massaging her temples, attempting to hide the embarrassment evident on her face.
