Chapter 21

Karter's clothes on his second day to work.

Author's POV

It was a day after Karter's first day at work and there has been the talk of a particular event going around the office. The Omega had to tear himself away from his mate that morning since Ivan was being very clingy and hardly let the boy get ready for his work. Maybe it was the fact that Ivan just got marked by his mate which resulted in his wolf to become more tenacious and protective of Karter. 

For the first time, Karter saw Ivan give him the most melting puppy eyes as he was leaving for work. The Omega almost gave in but he had remembered how thrilled William was the other day as he taught Karter. 

"What's going on?" Karter asked the older Omega male. "I've been hearing so much about 'the event', what's the event?" William was collecting a few files for Karter which will help him for his first project, which was the new suppressant case.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you, Alex and Killian were babbling to Ivan about the interruption of the after-party at your mating ceremony." William placed the files at the desk. "The yearly festival is 2 days away and the two were trying to convince Ivan of continuing the ceremony on that day." He sat in front of him and opened a few files as he spoke. 

"Oh." Karter leaned back on his chair. He forgot that their mating ceremony was interrupted and that there were many rituals and customs to be performed. With all of the confusion and invitations from other packs and The Council, the couple forgot about the matter. 

"Talk to him about it. If you wish to complete your ceremony, I believe the festival is the best time for it." William smiled encouragingly at him. "We should take a break." The older man declared and stood up, keeping all of the paper at their places. "We can continue after lunch." Karter nodded and smiled at him. 

William informed Karter that he would be meeting with his mate and some friends for lunch as he exited the office. As the new Luna was walking back to his office, he caught the stares of the office workers. Karter's heart rate speed up and his motions became stiff. 

'S-smile.' Percy's nervous voice came to his head. 'Don't just s-stand like that! Smile!' Karter obeyed and showed others his awkward smile. All of the wolves returned the action and one by one went back to their works. 'Well, that was nerve-wracking.' Percy commented as Karter let out a deep sigh. 

'Why is it so hard?!' Karter exclaimed to his inner wolf in an exaggerated tone. 'I know they are nice people but I j-just ca- what should I d-'

'You okay, love?' Ivan's voice cut in.

'Yeah.' Karter answers quickly.  The boy understood that his strong emotions of restlessness reached his mate. 'Are you free for lunch?' Karter asked as his attention went to his messy desk. 'I have some things to discuss.'

'Sure. Come to my office.'

"Good afternoon, Luna." Ava, Ivan's secretary stood up from her seat and bowed a little.

"Good afternoon, Ava." Karter managed to push past his social anxiety. "How are you doing?" The boy couldn't feel more proud of himself for initiating a conversation.

"I'm doing great, what about you?" The sweet woman asked in a gentle tone.

"Good, thank you for asking." He clasp his hand behind and glanced at Ivan's office door. "I can go in?" He timidly asked. 

"Of course, Sir." She ran around her desk and gestured him to the door and pushed it open for him. Karter quickly followed and entered the office. His eyes met with the desiring image of his mate typing with his eyes trained on the screen.
