It has been half an hour since they were allowed to see Karter and his family and Ivan stayed seated by his side. William told Ivan that Lucas and he are staying in the waiting room for Killian to get any information on his condition. Kayne and John spent were also spending some time with them and comforting the couple as much as they could.

The doctor who came to check on Karter, took off his mask when his oxygen levels got better. It was late in the night but no one dared to get any rest. Ivan stayed glued to Karter's bed and saw the surprising change of his complexion. His cheeks were flushed and his overall appearance was looking a lot better.

It took another 15 minutes for him to open his eyes. First, there was confusion and then urgency. The Omega got up suddenly and looked around the room. Anna and Ivan immediately hovered over him and held his arm to stop him from moving so fast.

"Hey, easy there." Ivan muttered and took in Karter's panicked expressions.

"Killian! Where's Kill?" Karter looked at his mate with eyes with so much concern for the wolf.

"Settle down first." Ivan pushed him gently so he'll lean his body on the wall. He then picked up a glass of water and pressed it on his lips.

Karter tried to struggle but when his dried throat came to his notice, he quickly gulped down the liquid. When the glass was half empty, the Omega pushed it away and weakly raised his hand to wipe his mouth.

"Mama." Karter had just noticed his mother in the room when she stood up to press the button which calls over the doctor.

"Hey." Anna whispered as her hands gently caressed Karter's cheek. "How are you feeling?"

"Fine." Karter quietly replied and looked down. "How's Killian?" He turned his eyes to his mate. "I-is he a-alive?" He whimpered out and his eyes became glossy with tears.

"Yeah... He's in surgery...um he'll be fine." Ivan nodded and squeezed his hand but the Omega didn't reply, just stayed quiet.

"I'm sorry." Karter sobbed out and took his hands away from the grasp of his mother and mate. He buried his face in his and wept.

"It was not your fault." Ivan sighed and got closer to Karter and hugged his upper body.

"It wouldn't have happened if I hadn't gone out to train so late." Karter argued and pushed himself away from his mate's embrace and stayed still with tears streaming down his cheek.

"Stop blaming yourself, Kar. From what I've gathered, you saved his life." Ivan petted his head gently.

"How was he?" Karter asked after taking a deep breath in and wiping his tears.

Ivan looked at Anna, hesitating to reveal the sorrowful information. The Alpha didn't want to make Karter worry in such a state.

"Badly injured," Ivan finally said, deciding it's better to tell him since he'll know anyway. "Barely, but he's holding on."

Karter looked ahead and his eye hardened as a dark frown covered his face. He looked way too calm for Ivan's liking. The three sat there in silence as Ivan and Anna glanced at each other occasionally. Dorothy entered the room with another doctor and two nurses and made her way to Karter with a small smile.

"How are you feeling?" She sat down beside him after Ivan stood from his seat.

"Better than I deserve." Karter looked dead in her eyes and replied. She narrowed her eyes at him before nodding.

"Good, you are healing rapidly." She extended her hand towards Karter's and picked it up. She monitored the side of the hand and showed it to the Omega. Karter looked at saw a white scare where he cut himself while crushing the garlic. "When did you get this?"
