you were serious about the "suprise" you had mentioned on the jet. pretty much as soon as it landed you had a death grip on my wrist,  persistently pulling me along with you through the parking lot and to your car rambling on about how much i'd love it.

"you're going to love it so much!" you cheered, buckling your seatbelt and waiting for me to do the same.

i laughed at your enthusiasm, wondering what it could possibly be that would make you this excited.

the car ride was mostly quiet, a contrast to your giddy-ness that had occurred  just before we stepped inside. it was like once we were alone together the atmosphere had changed. now everything was too quiet. not a tense quiet and not really a bad quiet either, it's just nothing felt worthy enough of breaking the silence so i didn't bother. you understood that.

the radio hummed oldies, both of us too young to know the songs.

i wasn't exactly sure where you taking me but i also wasn't concerned about it.

we pulled into your apartment building's parking lot and you held the door open for me.

we walked though the hallway to your room, your hand on my shoulder the entire time.

you paused just in front of the door, grinning down at me. i tilted my head, growing more curious the more you drew it out.

you slowly opened the door, using your body to shield what was behind you dramatically.

"okay, you have to promise not to be mad." you said with a goofy smile.

"why would i be mad...?"

"you like cats right?"

when you moved out of the way, a black cat was in the center of your living room curled up on your couch.

"i got her, for us."

you watched as my eyes brightened and my lips pulled into a huge smile with a proud grin.

you ran over to the black ball of fluff and scooped it up, bringing it towards me while i waited by the door, conflicted about if i stood step in or not.

"i'm thinking beethoven is a good name for her, what do you think?"

i smiled until my cheeks hurt, stroking between the cat's ears and as i nodded in agreement. "beethoven's perfect! she's perfect."

"yay!" you said in a cute squeal, rolling up and down the balls of your feet.

"our baby." you concluded with a kiss on beethoven's nose.
