Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Poppy Scamander

Subway; 4:45 am

Poppy and Tina appeared on the road just as a crowd was forming. Aurors stood around a subway station, casting protection charms. The two girls ran forward. Poppy disapparated inside the perimeter before it could completely close off. Tina rolled underneath the spell. To be fair, she preferred her hidden entrances to look cool than practical; funny for her.

It certainly looked cool.

She stood up and pulled Poppy to the ground behind a half wall as Picquery turned around to look at the crowd of no-maj's yelling slurs about wizards at her. Poppy and Tina used this to their advantages and ducked into the subway station. They walked down the stairs and saw Newt approaching Credence slowly, but with a caring look.

But, suddenly, Newt was pushed backward by a blast. He fell onto the train tracks. Credence ran away, down the tracks. Graves approached Newt and threw spell after spell at him. Poppy pointed Tina to go after Credence while she pulled out her wand to help Newt against Graves. But, before she could do anything, she heard something behind her. Looking, Credence looking like he was having a fit.

The obscurus was coming out.

When it did, Graves disapparated. Newt was too weak, so Poppy helped him up and apparated behind a column just as the obscurus attacked. Poppy's arm was exposed and the obscurus billowed against it.

She screamed as a great surge of pain soared up her arm. She looked at it and the mark from before was darkening. Newt dropped down to examine it.

"This is bad, Poppy."

Poppy looked up when he addressed her by her first name. Then she looked down again.

"It'll be fine. I just can't let the obscurus touch it." Poppy stated confidently; rolling her sleeve down. Then, she disapparated to the other side of the subway. She was about to start to try and calm Credence down when her wand whipped from her grasp and she flew up to the wall, her neck jerking harshly. She was stuck as something to observe. The obscurus swooped down at Newt, Graves was a little ways away from Newt; crouching against the floor. Poppy kicked at the wall, struggling to release herself from Graves' spell.

That was when Tina ran in "Credence, no!" she yelled.

Credence stopped what he was doing, the obscurus looking to Tina; as if it were contemplating whether it should attack her or not. Under her breath, Poppy said-

"Come on, Tina. Come on."

"Keeping talking, Tina." Newt said "Keep talking to him. He'll listen to you. He's listening."

Tina made eye contact with the white eyes of the obscurial "I know what that woman did to you. But you need to stop this now." the obscurial started to wind itself up at the idea of stopping "Newt and I will protect you!" Tina assured him.

Poppy scoffed in an offended way, Not even say anything about your best friend. Wow, Tina.

Credence started settling down again.

They heard scrambling into the station Tina looked to the Aurors and shushed them "You'll frighten him!" looking back to Credence, who was started to get riled up again, she said "Credence, shh!" in a comforting way.

Spells soared over Tina's head, making her drop to the ground.

"NO!!!" she screamed.

Poppy watched in horror as she listened to the distressed cries of Credence. She finally broke from the wall and ran at the obscurus, her arm outstretched. Reaching in to try and find Credence's arm, pain surged through her arm again, but this time she didn't stop what she was doing. She cried out from pain, but she trudged on through. Finally, she grabbed Credence's arm, but only for a second.

Meeting his eye, she saw herself. Scared and alone. But then, Poppy saw something she couldn't help but smile at. He wouldn't die. He would recharge. So, Poppy let go and Credence was gone. Poppy dropped to the ground suddenly, breathing in and out deeply. Her arm ached and tears were slowly falling down her face.

Tina scrambled to Poppy, tears streaming down her face. Graves stood up and watched as small pieces of the obscurus floated around.

"You fools. Do you know what you've done?" he turned to them.

"The obscurial was killed on my orders, Mr. Graves."

Poppy stood up by using Tina's shoulder as leverage.

"And history will surely make note of that, Madam President. What was done here today was not right!"

"He threatened to expose the wizarding world! He has broken one of our most sacred laws!"

"A law that has us, scuttling like rats in the gutter? A law that forces us to hide our true selves? Tell me, Madam President. Who does this law protect? Us?" he pointed towards the ceiling and what he asked next changed his voice "Or them?"

Poppy felt a chill that wasn't there before crawl up her neck as he spoke.

Graves started to walk away "I refuse to bow down any longer."

"Aurors. Will you please remove Mr. Graves of his wand. And escort him back-"

Graves had turned and started firing against the president and her Aurors. Before Poppy could think to do anything, Newt set loose a creature from his pocket to distract Graves as he bound Graves hands behind his back.

"Accio!" Tina called, catching Graves' wand in her hand.

Poppy held her wand up "Revelio."

Graves laughed and looked to the floor. His features changed until his hair was completely white, as well as his skin. He looked up at the president.

"Do you think you can hold me?" he asked at almost a whisper.

Picquery glared down at him "We'll do our best. Mr. Grindelwald."

A couple aurors grabbed him by the arms and took him away. Grindelwald forced them to stop when he planted his feet in front of Newt. He made eye contact with him and asked;

"Will we die, just a little?"

Then, he was forced away again. Poppy limped forward with the help of Tina and she placed her hand on her brothers shoulder.

"Do you know what that was about?" she asked.

Newt shrugged his shoulders, then looked at Tina. The two of them smiled at each other.

"We owe you an apology, Mr. Scamander." Picquery told him "But the wizarding world is exposed. We cannot obliviate an entire city."

Newt was watching something against the subway wall. Poppy looked down at her arm. The mark was still there.

"Actually," Newt started, which attracted everyone's attention "I think we can."
