Chapter Sixteen

My plans may not have been the best in the past, but gosh darn it, this one better be okay. Clint threw a glance at me, then going back to putting a guy in a headlock and twisting his neck. Clint looked back at me, staring at him and the guy on the ground. He stared at me for a little while until I yelled out, "Behind you!"

He spun on his heel, bringing his fist up in the process. The HYDRA soldier that had the misfortune of coming into contact with Clint's fist fell to the ground. Clint shook his hand, draining whatever pain he got from the HYDRA soldier's face. "Let's get you to S.H.I.E.L.D.!" He said, laughing some, "I am the only one other than Nat that can pilot."

I was surprised I could actually hear his voice over the noise of the fight. It was slowly dying down, but I think all of us knew that reinforcements would be on the way. I glanced at the Quinjet still on platform just outside the Tower. I looked back at Clint who nodded at me, which I assumed meant 'Run for your life and get on the jet.'

Steve's shield flew through the air, hitting someone right behind me. I turned, stunned, to see a HYDRA soldier collapsing to the ground. I searched the Tower to find Steve, and saw him bringing his fist to who I believe was Ward. His face was covered in his own blood, so I couldn't exactly tell if it was him. He seemed to be keeping himself together, still taking blows from Steve. I was going to thank Steve for the save, but decided against it since he was in the middle of a fight. I held on to the screwdriver still in my hand, the only true self protection that I had.

I decided it was probably time to get to the Quinjet, so screwdriver in my hand, I dove deeper into the crowd. HYDRA soldiers flew backwards, hitting the ground hard. I dodged most of them; only twice did a falling HYDRA soldier get me. Their hands were extended, and as they went down, they struck my face. Just more bruises to add to the ones I already had. I pushed past a soldier, using my foot to trip him. He sputtered something out, but I couldn't hear it over the noise. But I was pretty sure it was something along the lines of 'Hail, Hydra.' I stepped on him for good measure.

A woman was the next person to attack me. She was the first HYDRA soldier that I saw that was female. Don't get me wrong, I was surprised. She was the first one I saw. She swung her arm out at me, some type of spikes sprouting from her jacket's sleeves. I went to dodge it by moving downwards, but her sleeve spikes caught my cheek. I could feel the metal scratch my skin, and feel the wound appearing. I stared at her wide eyed by instinct and brought a hand to the cut. I brought my hand back down, taking a split second to look down at my blood on my fingers. I sighed, one more thing to add to the list of injuries.

I swung the screwdriver towards her, managing to cut her sleeve open and scratch her. She growled and lunged at me. I tried to dodge her pounce, but she already had me on the ground. "If you wanted me in this position, you could've just asked." I said in a joking manner, then realizing it came out sounding rather sexual. I shuddered at what I just said, and tried to squirm my way out from under the HYDRA woman.

She glared at me, pulling a knife from the inside of her jacket. I stared at the glinting blade in her hand.

"Hail–"

"–Hail, Hydra; yeah, yeah, yeah. Heard it before. Would you mind putting the knife away?" I asked, trying to be polite despite our situation. She grabbed my face, holding my chin, squishing my mouth so I couldn't talk anymore. The knife in her other hand was closer to my face than I wanted.

The woman held the knife closer to the corner of part of my mouth. I squirmed under the blade barely touching my skin. It was really cold, and I was hoping she hadn't killed anyone with it recently (or at all, for that matter). She stuck the blade into the corner of my mouth, and I noticed how much this felt like the scene from The Hunger Games with Katniss and Clove. Unless I had some kind of Thresh to save me, I had no chance in surviving this.
