Chapter 5: Hybrid Instincts Mixed with a Feeling of Home

As Dream looked down at the little drowned hybrid, he was very suddenly struck in the knee with a small, dull trident.

"Purpled!" Ranboo spoke as the axolotl rubbed his knee, "You can't do that!"

He glared before asking, "Why not?"

"He's nice and look, he can actually get in the water with you!"

There was a moment when Dream looked back at the expecting kids before he realized what they wanted. Slowly, he slipped into the cold water and as soon as he did, he was tackled.

The anxiety rising in his chest was now as full panic mode. He was going to die, this drowned was going to kill him. Dream froze and felt tears prick at his eyes.

The little drowned just clung onto his neck much to his surprise and before Dream knew it, he was being lifted out of the water like a cat by his armpits. Though he managed to cradle to the kid to his chest still. Throwing his head back to look, he wasn't surprised to see that Techno was the one holding him.

"Hello, is something wrong?" Dream asked voice shaky, tilting his head.

Techno eyed the kid in his arms, "You coaxed him out."

"No." He denied, shaking his head, "Ranboo brought me over and all I did was get in the water."

Purpled climbed over onto Techno like a little gremlin and when he was placed down, he stumbled, almost falling back into the water. Luckily, Techno managed to grab him, but unluckily when he made a noise of surprise, the brute let him go as he let out a grunt.

When he surfaced, Dream was glad to see that Ranboo hadn't gotten splashed, but was surprised to see him hiding behind his father who was berating the drowned kid.

Ranboo etched closer to the water before pointing at the two, "Purpled bit dad."

"What? Why?" He asked, confused, swimming closer to the edge.

He just shrugged and stepped away, "Don't know."

As he lifted himself out of the water, they both turned to look at him. Purpled, who was being held up by the hood of his hoodie, slipped out of it to run over to him.

Dream flinched and either Techno noticed or thought he would've been pushed back in the water, but either way he managed to grab the scoop up the kid before he reached him.

"Let's head home." He stated before addressing the newcomer, "Philza will be happy to see you, kid."

As the two kids ran ahead, Dream decided to ask, "Is he another one of yours?"

"No." Was all he got before they went their separate ways.

As he walked up to Philza's house, he was greeted by Ranboo giving him and towel before leaving to his own house.

After drying off, he walked in and when he spotted Purpled sitting at the kitchen table, he froze for a second before heading to the guest room. Philza tried to stop him, but he just ignored him.

Techno knew of the kid that was living in their river. He also knew that nothing could coax him out, not even food.

Then Ranboo introduces him to Dream and the kid clung onto the poor axolotl. He seemed terrified, which is understandable. Axolotls and Drowned don't typically get along, more known for murdering the other kind. However, Purpled probably doesn't understand.

Which made Techno pause.

The kid bit him... after he made panicked noise... Oh this might be an issue.

Then he realized that he sent the kid over to Philza where Dream was staying. Oh god, Techno turned on his heel and walked over. Not feeling the need to knock, he just opened the door and was greeted by Philza, whose voice was coming from the kitchen.

"I just came to grab the kid." He looked around as he spoke.

Philza peaked out and looked down the hall, "Ah, he's sitting outside the guest room door."

With a nod, he headed that way and was greeted with a bored looking kid, tracing the grooves in the floorboards with his fingers. When he approached the kid looked up and that's when Techno stopped and held out his hand. Purpled looked back at the door before getting up and taking his hand.

The brute lifted him up in his arms and walked out with a simple goodbye to Philza. Unbeknownst of the panicking axolotl hybrid in the guest room.

When Techno got home, he began setting up the couch for the little drowned hybrid to sleep on for the night. Hopefully, tomorrow would be better for Dream.

Notes:

I have a lot of Angst ideas for this fic so I'm sorry ;-; Also Drowned have killed my Axolotls and I'm sad about that

Also I have a job now so I'm trying my best to keep up my writing, so updates for my 3 fics (This one, Marked Target, and Ghosts, Demons, and Spirits... Oh My!) may be slow, sorry!
