Chapter 2: Bridging the gap

Author's note: This story addresses a lot of plot points from the series and movie that you guys wanted me to cover in my first story Love 020: youth and love. Hope you enjoy this!

The swordswoman of Bihai clan, aka Reed Weiwei was the most powerful member of the clan. She was number 6 on the player rankings on the Beijing server and had formed an in game marriage with Zhenshui, a popular player on the server, at his behest. Weiwei didn't know who he was in real life ( a rich brat from the Zhao family that owned some gaming company) and neither he her. 

Today as she logged into the game per usual, Weiwei got a ping from Zhenshui, "Wei Wei, can you please come to the Garden of Life?"

'Garden of life? Nobody goes their unless they are forming an in game marriage or annulling one', she thought, ' well, it doesn't really matter, I only formed this alliance for a tournament a few months ago'. Still musing, she responded "Sure, I'll be there in a tic"

When she arrived, Zhenshui was pacing with a serious expression,"You came! Reed Weiwei, you have helped me win many tournaments and battle many bosses, but I must regretfully ask for an annulment of our marriage. I will give you a piece of equipment as compensation. I really am sorry."

Weiwei made her avatar hold up a hand, "It's all good and no, I don't want any equipment. We had some good times. Let's part as friends. Let's go to the rock of lives." She really meant it.

Zhenshui was shocked. He hadn't expected her to take this so casually. Sure, he wanted to form an in-game marriage with his real-life girlfriend , but they had been married for months in the game.

Zhenshui, "Aren't you going to ask me a reason?"

Weiwei, "No. I mean its your prerogative. Besides, this is just a game."

Wondering how she could be so blasé, he reasoned, 'Well, who knows if she is really a she. The way she plays, maybe she really is a bio-man in disguise. That's why she would never post pictures of herself on the forum or get on video chats with the rest of clan'. Wasting no time, they both drank the drop of amnesia to formally annul their in-game marriage.

Weiwei promptly said ,"When we meet next, we always meet as friends! I had fun in the game with you. Bye!" and left. Zhenshui shook himself after a few seconds and left as well.

Weiwei decided to pick some herbs and continue her quest on the game. As she was doing that, Nini, another member of the Bihai clan, pinged Weiwei, "Are you seriously picking herbs now?"

Weiwei responded, "Yeah, what about it?"

Nini: "Weiwei, Zhenshui is getting married to Yaoyao. Their wedding procession is underway at the town's square in Jianghu. "

Weiwei said,"Oh! Good for him. I'll check it out" and started moving towards the town's square. Nini followed her. Unbeknownst to them, Nai was in the shadows by pure chance. He had seen that Weiwei had an in-game spouse and was worried she already had a boyfriend. He was sulking when he saw the two characters walk by. ( Players could see chat messages in public places)

Nini continued,"Aren't you upset? In a matter of minutes of divorcing you, he has taken another bride. What will that do to your reputation?"

Weiwei responded, "Haha. Why would I be upset? It's not like I know him in real life. Heck, he is not even a friend. We teamed up and played a few tournaments together. Why would I be bothered about reputation in some fictitious world? " Seeing these messages sent Nai's heart soaring, his girl was single and available both in game and IRL.

"Besides," she continued, "If anything, it's his loss. I'm ranked 6 on this server and am one of the founders of a clan. He just lost a powerful battle partner ;)".  Nai fervently agreed. He was looking for an opening to talk to Weiwei and he finally had a chance.
