(Hey! We're FINALLY getting out of the forest! Took me long enough!)
A high-pitched ringing filled the air. Mono, who fell onto the ground, tried to get back up. Six was doing the same.
"Hey... are you alright?" she said.
"I... think so?" Mono replied.
They helped each other up and tried to have a look at their situation. They were still inside the shed, but the door is absolutely wrecked. They peeked through the door and saw the hunter's corpse outside lying down on the grass.
"Did we just... kill someone?" Mono said nervously.
Six didn't reply. Instead, she just looked blankly outside.
"Uhm.. Six?" Mono said. She still didn't answer. He then tapped her shoulder and she flinched in response. "Hey? You okay? You spaced out." Mono asked her.
"Yeah... I'm okay." she said in a dull voice. "Let's go already."
They climbed out the shed's window and reached the outside. The surroundings, however, were drastically different. Instead of a forest, they were at a beachside. There was sand in the distance, including an ocean or sea of some sorts.
"Okay... how are we supposed to get across?" Six asked. Mono looked around to see if anything could help them. Luckily, there was. "You think we can use that as a makeshift raft?" Mono said while pointing to something in the distance.
It was a door. A stray door that, for some reason, is just lying there on the sand.
"I mean.. it could work." Six said. "But... why would there just be a door there of all places?" she added.
"Maybe it's for the fish to make knock-knock jokes." Mono said playfully. Six let out a small laugh in reply. "Well... enough jokes, what do you say we get out of here?" he added.
They both pushed their "raft" into the water and hopped onto it. Luckily, they didn't need a paddle or anything since the water's current was already doing the work for them. It's a good thing they were small too, or else the door probably won't be able to handle their weight.
They treaded the waters slowly, and with each passing minute, fog crept in on them. It didn't really matter to them if they saw where they're going or not. All they wanted was to get out of that tree-filled hellscape. An impression of silence filled the air. Mono, however, tried to break it.
"So... where are you from?" he asked his friend.
Six stayed silent for a while, but after a few minutes, she decided to speak. "I... was from a city. Don't remember where though. But... I remember I was adopted."
Mono was shocked hearing that his friend was adopted. "Did you ever... find out who your real parents were?" he asked politely.
"Yeah... only my mom though. But I wish I didn't." she said in a regretful tone.
"How come?" Mono said in concern.
"I... met her once, after going home from school. I was surprised she even recognized me. I... honestly expected her to be a bit nicer but... all she said was that I'm a mistake or something."
Mono may have barely knew Six, but deep inside, he got pissed. He wanted to make that woman take those words back.
"Hehe... and to think, just a few days after... all of this happened, if you know what I mean...." Six added.
"What happened after that?" Mono asked in curiosity.
"Well... I remember running away, but I got captured. After that... I went to somewhere called the Nest. It's like some kind of school mixed with a giant mansion. I was forced to study there for a while... then a few days after, I met someone. She called herself Five." she added.
